Mr Clark, of Fairlie Creek, will conduct the services at this church to-morrow. Political Address. Mr A, E. G. Rhodes will address his constituents in the Geraldine Volunteer Hall at 8 o’clock this evening. Primitive Methodist Church. The services for to-morrow in connection with this Church will be found in our advertising columns. Reduction in Freights.—A cable message received from Keep Bros., London, by a firm in Christchurch announces that freights have been reduced from 10s to ss. Winchester Fruit Preserving Co. —Shareholders are reminded that the annual meeting of this company takes place this evening. Alleged Arson. —A report of the proceedings in the R.M. Court, Geraldine, in the charge against Homes, of setting lire to the Hilton Hotel, will be found on our fourth page. The New Taxation.— The Auckland Liberal Association have passed a motion affirming the opinion that the new system of taxation is calculated to encourage the growth and introduction of capital and to promote and foster industrial enterprise. The Picturesque Atlas.— Despite the decision of the Court of Appeal the Picturesque Atlas cases are not yet done with. Nineteen more are down for hearing at Wellington, but it is hoped that some will be governed by the dicision for the company in Jessup’s case. A Large Choir. —The Christchurch Diocesan Choral Association’s annual festival was held last Thursday. Sixteen city and suburban church choirs, comprising 400 voices, assembled at afternoon and evening services, and rendered full choral services. The sermon in the evening was preached by Bishop Julius. Temuka Caledonian Society. —On Monday evening the annual dinner under the auspices of the Temuka Caledonian Society will be held in the large sample room in the Star Hotel. Temuka. In the past all the gatherings of the Society have been succesful, and this one should be very enjoyable. Further particulars as to where tickets can be obtained, etc., will be found in our advertising columns. To Correspondents. —Letters to the editor intended to appear in this paper, must be authenticated by the name of the writer, not necessarily for publication but as a proof of good faith. This is a rule in every newspaper office, and we though everybody knew it, yet “ Lover of Justice ” writes to us without complying with this rule. His letter, therefore, cannot appear. At any rate, it would be better to allow the subject to rest now. Acclimatisation. —ln answer to a letter from the Goverument suggesting a conference of delegates from the Acclimatisation Societies on the East Coast of the South Island, Avith a view to amalgamation, the North Canterbury Society heartily approved, and suggested the formation of two large societies with local committees. The meeting left the date of the conference to the Government to fix, and agreed to send delegates.
