Land Settlement. —Seventy thousand acres have qeen taken up by special settlement associations in the last few weeks, 59,000 on the line of the central railway, not far from Hunterville, and 11,000 in the Waimarimo block. St. Joseph’s School Entertainment. —As will be seen in another column, the annual musical and dramatic entertainment by the pupils of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Convent School takes place on Anniversary Day, December 16th, as usual. It is scarcely necessary to say anything in recommendation of this annual fixture. On all previous occasions the Hall has been crammed to excess, and this one should be no exception to'the general rule. The entire satisfaction which the endeavors of the juveniles have given to their audiences has made them very popular, and every ptfort is being made to make this entertainment as enjoyable as former ones.
