S.C. CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The adjourned monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held at Timaru yesterday. Present—Mr John Jackson (chairman), Messrs Moore, Barker) and Sinclair, and Dr Thomas. An apology was read from Mr McLaren. Li his opening remarks the chairman said this would be the present Board’s last meeting, as there would be .an election of new members by the various contributing bodies on Wednesday. Their successors would find the hospital in thoroughly good order. In reply to a letter from the board, Drs Lovegrove, Hogg, and Reid. stated that they were quite prepared to carry on the work of the hospital. A letter was read from Dr Thomas, resigning his position on the medical staff of the Hospital after the completion of the present three months’ trial—The resignation was received with regret. The new rules were considered and several were slightly amended. At the close of the discussion Mr Moore moved, and Mr Sinclair seconded : “ That the by-laws of the Timaru hospital as reyised by the committee and approved by the board be adopted, and that they come into operation on December Bth.” Agreed to unanimously. Charitable aid business was taken, and relief was directed to be made in certain cases. The only financial matter dealt, with was the refund of £2B to the matron’s convalescent fund, the said sum being transferred some time ago for a specific purpose. Mr Moore moved that very hearty thanks be tendered to Mr Jackson for the way he had carried out his duties as chairman. The motion was seconded by Mr Sinclair, both gentlemen speaking very highly of Mr Jackson’s services. A vote of thanks was also passed to the staff, and the meeting terminated.
