It has been calculated, says an English paper, that the value of one day of bright sunshine ever the whole of the British Islands is worth at least a million sterling to the farmer, in the difference which it makes to him in the ripening of the grain ; but the value of one day of genial showers in the month of June is probably even greater still. It goes far to save all the crops ; the roots which, without the showers were at a standstill, begin at once to grow, the- grass loses the bare and parched look which it has under the rule of the east wind, and puts on a rich green refreshing to look upon, and full of all the elements of health to the cattle that feed upon it, and all Nature rejoices both in the new delight which has come with the welcome showers, and in the better hope which they give as to the future of the season. It is, of course, possible that when the moisture-laden winds from the Atlantic begin to bring the growing showers of June to us they may continue to bring rains till wo weary of them. But it is at least satisfactory to have the showers in fair measure, for there is still time for the sunshine to follow them before the height of summer comes.
