London, Nov. 5. The American visible supply of wheat is estimated af 49,600,000 bushels. Noy. 6. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, lOlf; 3£ ditto, 92J. There is considerable business doing in the former securities, but the latter are not changing hands freely at present. Long-berried New Zealand wheat, 455, market firmer. For off coast cargoes holders ask 425, but buyers are not inclined to give more than 41s. Canterbury mutton, 4d. The market is glutted at present. Lamb, 4f d; beef, hindquarters, 3jd. New Zealand hemp is flat and prices unchanged. Adelaide wheat, 455, market firm; Victorian, 45s 7d, firmer.
A sham military officer who had lodged in the house of a gentleman farmer at Brixted, has been sentenced to five years’ penal servitude for attempting to extort a large sum of money from the gentleman’s wife, under threats of circulating a scandal which had no foundation in fact.
