GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council was held on Saturday instead of-next Wednesday. Present —Messrs W. Balfour (chairman), Talbot, Howell, Mackay, Barker, and Quinn. BBIDGhS. • -The engineers reported that all the timberjhad been delivered, and the contract for redecking the Orari bridge would be completed very shortly. Mr Thomas Palmer waited on the Council to; request that the OxfordTemuka railway bridge should be removed, as it had caused a diversion of the river, and if not removed would do still nore damage.—After a little discussion the matter was held over, though approved. ■ J WATER BACKS. The engineers reported that water was turned into the Waitohi main race ten days ago. A few slips and leakages took place along the terrace at first, but the water was now running through very satisfactorily, and should have run through nearly all the distributing races by the end of next week. The majority of the ratepayers in the proposed Otipua water supply district protested against the council proceeding any further with the schema, as the estimated cost, 8d an acre, was too high. -r^The.-scheme. The Temuka Road Board forwarded their resolution of protest against the new electoral boundaries and names, and requested co-operation in getting the inconvenient alteration amended. The Temuka Towp Board also wrote endorsing the foregoing. -- .Mr-Talbot said it was a most absurd arrangement for the north part of the old Geraldine district. Mr Howell concurred with the resolution. , He ~ thought the Waitaki and Rangttata should be made outer boundaries for the South Canterbury districts. It was decided to forward an endorsement of the resolutions to the Representation Commissioners. .ANNUAL MEETING. . The annual meeting of the council will be held on the 25th inst. A special meeting will be held the same day to adopt the traction engine by-law. ’■ ' ACCOUNTS. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board requested payment of half year’s levy on the county divisions, total £563 7s Id, Accounts wers passed for payment—general, £4l 3s; water races, £285 6s 6d.
