WINCHESTER PUBLIC SCHOOL
TO THE EDITOR. Sir—Kindly permit me space in your valuable paper to make one or two remarks regarding the half holiday granted by the School Committee to the children on the Ist inst., the occasion being the Ueraldine races. It is very evident that, but few of the children in this district went to the races; and even if they did choose to go, the racecourse is a place from which, if possible, children should be kept. Lastly, the school examination took place on the Tuesday following, and by the way the master's complain about the amount of lessons children have' to learn during the year in order to pass the different Standards, I should think a half holiday just before the examinations would be out of place, especially for that which is no consequence to the children here. An explanation of the above would be acceptable. Thanking you for the space allowed.—l am, &c., Guardian.
