CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS.

At the Addington yards on Wednesday the total number of stock yarded comprised 5953 sheep and lambs, 385 head of cattle, and 213 pigs. Fat Cattle—About 100 were brought forward. Best steers sold freely from £7 to £8 16s, medium £5 upwards; best cows and heifers from £6 to £B,-medium and inferior £4 upwards. A good clearance was effected. Store Cattle—There were about 280 head put into the market. Good’large framed steers made up to £4'; medium, £3 to £3 10s; two-year-old heifers, 40s to 55s ; yearlings to eighteen months old, 25s to 295; not many lots changed owners. Fat Lambs—Two pens made 11s 6d to 13s 6d; mediums, 10s to 11s 3d; inferior, 9s upwards. Fat Sheep—There was again a small entry, fully one-half being merinos, and noticeable was the first draft of shorn sheep which were put on the market in very nice condition. As there was no demand for export there was a considerable drop in prices. Top pens of prime crossbred wethers made from 18s to 22s fid, medium 16s to 17s 6d, and light weights 13s upwards, fat crossbred ewes (maidens) 17s to 18s 9d, fat ewes 14s 6d to 17s for top pens, 12s to 14s for medium, top pens merino wethers made 24s to 16s Bd, medium 14s to 14s 6d, inferior 9s upwards. Store Sheep—-There was a moderate entry, for which/fchere was a fair demand. Good forward two, four and six-tooth crossbreds, mixed sexes, in fair condition, made up to 15s 6d; crossbred ewes, with lambs at foot, sound-mouthed 16s lid, old 11s 6d upwards; merino ewes and lambs 5s 2d to 6s 8d according to condition and per centage, and crossbred hoggets from 9s 3d for small, up to 13s lid for good well-grown lines. Pigs—Affair yarding, which met an Improved demand, and all lines were cleared at a slight rise on last week’s quotations. Sheepskins, Hough Fat Hides, and Calfskins Sales for the week comprise 1895 sheepskins, 804 packages rough fat, and about 30, hidgs_ "f«pi. calfskins. There was the usual attendance of fellmongers, Competition was fairly active up to a point, and all lots were cleared at a slightly better price than last week’s values. Butchers’ best crossbreds made 6s 9d, 7s, 7s 2d to 7s 6d; medium, 4a Cd upwards. Butchers’ best merinos, 5s 6d, ps 9d, 6s, 6s 3d to 6s 9d; medium and small, 3s fid upwards. Rough fat, 1 d, 1 |d, Ifd, lid to l|d for best parcels. Hides and calfskins are without alteration. CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Corn Exchange report (perN.P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending Oct. 9th : The wheat market is firm and prices i maintained. Flour has has been advanced by the local millers. Oats remain unaltered, with but a moderate business passing. Barley is in somewhat better demand, though prices have not improved. Beans and peas are slow of sale at quotations. Grass Seeds have been quiet. Potatoes are quite unsaleable. Butler is coming in freely and values are dropping. Cheese, unaltered. Quotations are as under;— Wheat—Tuscan, 4s fid; pearl, 4s sd; hunters, 4s 4d. Oats—Milling, Is lOd; short feed, Is 8d to Is 9d ; other sorts, Is fid to Is Bd. Barley—Malting (prime), 3a; medium, 2s fid to 2s 9d; feed, Is 9d to 2s 3d. Beans—2s 9d to 3s, Peas—Blue prussian, 2s 9d to 3fi; other sorts, 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Potatoes—Nominal. '

Grass Seed Rye : Machine dressed,4s 9d to 5s 3d. Cocksfoot, 4Jd to sid. Butter—6d to 7d. Cheese- —4d to4jd. The above quotations are those paid to farmers, f.o.b. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday Wheat—Market has inquiry ; prices are firm, and must further rise in value, owing to shortage ere new crops are to hand. Prime wheats, 4s lOd to ss; prime tuscans and velvets, 4s lOd ; other good milling sorts, 4s 4d to 4s 6d ; fowls’ wheat, good whole, 3s 8d to 4s. Onions—£3. Barley—Malting, 3s to 3s 3d; milling, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; feed, 2s to 2s 3d. Pearl barley, £l3. Oats—Best milling and seed, Is 6d to Is 7d; bright plump feed range from Is 6d to Is 7d ; other sorts, Is 3d to Is 4d —all sacks extra, off trucks, and ex store. Flour—Several large parcels are now loading for Australia. Roller, £l3 f.o.b. Timaru ; store, £ll ss. Oatmeal—£B 10s to £lO 10s. Bran, £3 10s. Sharps, £4 10s. . Potatoes —Glutted, 30s per ton. Pigs—l4oib to IfiOib, well fed, 3[d ; large sizes not saleable; hams, 7d to 8d; bacon 6d to 6d. Chaff—Up to £2 15s for prime, Turnips—Getting out of date, as feed is more plentiful. Straw—(Oaten and wheaten), 30s to 355. Hay (oaten), £3; clover and ryegrass hay, £3 5s to £3 10s. Butter—Prime salt, nominal at 8d ; fresh, plentiful. Eggs—ln-short supply. Honey—sd per !b. Cheese—ln demand ; stocks are now getting short; factory, sjd; dairy, 4£d to sd. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 3s 6d to 5s 9d; cocksfoot, 4f d to fid per fi>. Cocksfoot is now in active demand. Sheepskins—At auction on Tuesday some few lots of extra heavy green cross-’ breds brought 6s 6d to 6s lOd; average lots, 5s 6d, 5s 9d, to 6s ; light to medium, 4s 6d to 5s 3d; merinos,4s toss ; doublefleeced dry skins, 6s to 8s; good average lines, 4s 9d to bs 3d; medium, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; inferior, Is to 2s 6d. Hides—Quotations :—Prime heavy ox, 3d to 3£d ; extra heavy, to 3£d ; medium; 2£d to 2|d; well flayed mixed country hides, a fair weight, 2d to 2§d ; light,' IJd to Ifd per !b. Tallow and Rough Fat Prime rendered mutton, 19s to 20s per cwt; medium and good mixed, 16s to 17s 6d; inferior, 12s 6d to 14s ; clean unrendered caul fat, 13s to 13s 6d; well-savedi butchers’ rough fat, 12s to 12s 6d; medium, to 11s 6d; inferior, 10s to 11s. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Markets on Wednesday the following business was transacted:— Fat Cattle day, values on the whole being scarcely as good as last week. A very satisfactory sale was experienced throughout, competition both for medium and; prime beef being brisk from start to finish. Several pens of the best bullocks offered for the day brought £lO, £lO 10s,; to £11; good quality average weights, £8: to £9; medium, £7 to £7 16s; inferior, £5 10s to £6 10s; forward conditioned’ lines, £4 10s to £5 ss; cows and heifers (best), £6 .to £7 12s 6d; others proportionate rates. - Fat Sheep 6 1 penned, of which 1644 were crossbreds and the balance merinos. The sale was irregular, the demand for class sheep not being: particularly keen at any time, nor did the, best lines command the same prices at the : close of the auction as they would have done at the start. Merinos sold at about; the same rates in proportion as crossbreds; —any good lines realising satisfactory; values, inferior being neglected. Prime, heavy weight crossbred wethers brought: 19s 6d to 21s ; others of - good weight andj quality, 16s 6d to 17s 6d ; medium’ 15s to; 16s; ewes, 13s to 16s 3d; merino; wethers, 7s to 13s 6d. : Fat Lambs—Forty, to ,hand; some of which were of fair quality for this season’ of the yeau The best brought 11s 9d to 12s, others down to 9s. Pigs—2o6 were penned, about twothirds of which consisted of porkers and light-weight bacpu pigs not half of: which were required by the trade—and to effect sales of same very low rates had to bo accepted/ Stores of all sizes sold better in proportion, as the increased quantity of milk and other dairy produce has caused a demand for pigs of this class to consume. Medium weight bacon pigs brought 25s to 28s 6d; porkers, 18s to 23s ; suckers and weaners, 7s 6d to 13s; slips, 14s to 16s; strong stores, 16s 6d to 18s 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS, Sydney, Oct, 7.
