TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday. Present —Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), 0. Bisaet, and J. Fraser. INTERVIEW. Mr Hawke interviewed the board upon ■'the'-subject of the opening of a road at Qiarii how occupied by Mr Bisset. The latter was cropping it, aud he (the applicant) had offered to rent it, and his offer had been refused. He did not think ’ Mr Bisset ought to occupy that road and make a profit out of it. He himself had been summoned by the board for having a van upon a road, and he thought Mr Bisset was obstructing the road more than himself. The chajrman supposed that if there had been no strained relations between Mr BiSset and himself the value of the road being opened would not have , occurred to him. Mr Hawke contended that the opening of the road would cost very little. There were only about 40 chains of it, the approach to the river was not difficult, and there was only one small gully to fill L_ He presented a petition from six ratepayers interested, Mr Bisset said Mr Hawke had complained on a previous occasion that the name of the informant about the obstruction his van caused, upon the road had been withheld. It was not himself (the speaker), but a neighbor. The chairman said this was apart from the subject. The board office was no place to wash out these things. The board would consider any application made in the ordinary way most carefully. They had no power to let roads, and if a man cropped one he did it at his own risk. Mr Hawke referred the chairman to clause 68 of the Road Board Act, and withdrew. PETITION. The petition prayed that the road in question from Stewart’s to the Orari be opened up, as it was a main track to the Rangitata. It was signed by WHawke, W. Weaver, W. Stevens, A. Austin, G. Stewart, and R. Thomas. t The petition was carefully considered, and it appeared from, examination of the map that the petitioners would in no way be benefited by the formation of the road. .It was resolved—“ That the board adheres to its former decision not to open the road, on the ground that it (the road) is of no public utility.” CORRESPONDENCE. .
