Victoeian Wheat Makket.—The revised Government statistics (says the Melbourne Argus of the 16th inst.), places the last wheat harvest at 12,751,295 bushels, against the previous official estimate of 13,0803,226 bushels, a reduction of 251,931 bushels being shown. According to this statement, and assuming that 750,000 bushels were brought forward from last year, it would appear that the colony has over-exported. But against this assumption it is pretty certaiu that there is more than sufficient wheat in the. country to carry us into the next harvest season, although it must, of course, be admitted that the margin is so small that the market can be controlled. The assumption that the Government estimate is to be accepted would imply that the official estimate of the consumption is inaccurate, for the two estimates are irreconcilable when the stocks actually existing are taken into account. As regards the position of the market, as far as it legitimately represents the course of events, nothing can be said, although it is to be regretted that the producers of the wheat have benefited to so small an extent by the advances of the last few months. But the promotion of an artificial condition of the market is hardly a thing to be encouraged. The time is now clearly limited within which our market can rule higher than the English market. In the course of a few weeks Adelaide will begin to be affected by first arrivals of new crop, and once a parity with London is established there it will soon prevail here also, has been made by Dr Zamensky, a Moscow dentist.
