GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
i The ordinary meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday evening last, and attended by Messrs A. White (chairman), Dunlop, Mundell, Maslin, A. Sherratt, Williams, and Hammond. BOARD OF HEALTH, Mr Mundell asked if the person who had been requested by the' Board of Health to remove certain offensive maker from his premises had done so. The chairman said that , the person in question was now keeping his place in very decent order, and there would be noj% need now to proceed further. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : 1 From the Bank of New Zealand, forwarding fixed deposit receipt at 3 months, No. 101495, for £SO. , From the Treasury, Wellington, informing the board that the sum of £lB 18s 4d had been remitted to credit of their account at the Bank of New Zealand. From Mr Morrison, stating that he hoped the board would not entertain the thought of stopping up the right-of-way which connects his reserve with the main roa'd, and asking that something .be done to stop the leakage from the race. This could easily be managed by putting down a few pipes.—lt was agreed to put down the pipes on the understanding that Mr Morrison fixes a gate to stop general traffic bn the reserve.
From Mr Thomas Moloney, tendering 6a 6d for battens raised from the asphalt. —lt was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the works committee to dispose . of the battens to the best advantage. A PUBLIC MARKET. \ Mr H, B. Webster waited on the board and said he would like to hear their opinion with regard to certain sections, which he believed had been reserved by the board for market purposes. He had bought the leasehold right of these I sections, and there was a proposal on foot 'to erect public yards on these sections. He would like to know if the board would take the necessary steps to allow these sections to be taken up by a public company upon proper terms. The lease would then be surrendered *■!; once, and the board could make it up afresh. If the proposed company was carried out they would want a 21 years’ lease granted. He would suggest that the board appoiht a sub-committee to go into the matter, and, if necessary, call a special meeting at an early date, as the gentlemen who had the matter in hand were anxious to have it settled. It was a public company and not a private enterprise, and he • thought there should be no difficulty about making arrangements. ■ All, the members of the board expressed themselves in favor of granting the lease, and a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Hammond, Dunlop, and the chairman, were , appointed to take the matter into consideration and make the necessary arrangements. After thanking the board Mr Webster then withdrew, INTERVIEW. Mr Jones interviewed the board, asking# V" permission to place a pipe across the road to carry water into his property. It was agreed that the matter be left in the hands of the works committee, the board recommending Mr Jones’s application to their favorable consideration. RATES. On the motion of Mr Williams, s seconded by Mr Mundell, it was agreed to strike a rate of £d in the £ for the year ending March 31st, 1892, payable in one sum on or before Nov. sth. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Maslin and seconded by Mr Hammond—- " That all rates: not paid up before the Uth of the present month be sued for.”
REPORTS. The overseer’s report on works done was read and adopted. The ranger reported on stray cattle. SHINGLING. The chairman asked to have a few loads of shingle put down on the road near his property. . It was agreed that the works committee see that the work is carried out, and at the same time see if there is any necessity for a footpath to the bridge. UNREGISTERED DOGS. i, It was decided to hand the names of all defaulters in respect to the registration of dogs to the police, and have action taken against them. PAY SHEET. The pay sheet amounted to £7 18s 6d. The board then rose. GERALDINE DOMAIN BOARD, The monthly meeting of this board was held on Monday evening last. Messrs A. White (chairman), Dunlop, Mundell, Maslin, A. Sherratt, Williams, and Hammond were present. , MOTIONS. It was agreed that Messrs Webster and Co. be instructed to sell by auction the firewood near Mr Williams’. It was resolved that all rates due not paid before the 14th of the present month be sued for. It was agreed to call tenders for eating grass by sheep off the big domain for a term of 12 months, the works committee being empowered to accept same. / It was decided that notice be sent to all persons leasing reserves belonging to the town board to have their gorse trimmed and grubbed. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £1 3s 2d were passed for payment. The board then rose.
