Primitive Methodist Church Geraldine. —A special sermon is advertised for to-morrow evening by the Rev. W - C. Wood, “ Charges against a criminal with the sentence.” Auckland Tailoeesses’ Strike.— At a meeting of the Tailoresses’ Union it was asserted that the Master Tailors’ Association had entered into an agreement to employ none of the tailoresses on strike. Defective Gun. —One of the pneumatic disappearing 8 inch guns on the North Head, Auckland, forts was found after firing to be defective. The flaw is in the casting, and the gun is to be dismounted for the purpose of being sent Home.

Christchurch Normal School. —An enquiry is to beheld into the discipline of the Normal school at Christchurch. This is the result of long continued friction between Mr Wilson (the head teacher) and the inspectors. A Correction.—A slight error crept into our report of the “ Juvenile larrikinism" case which came before the Court at Geraldine on Tuesday last. Mr Pearpoint is made to say “ the parents of the boys were able to pay a fine ” whereas it should have read “ were unable to pay a fine.” /

Lecture. —The Rev.' W. C. Wood delivered a lecture last night in the Social Hall, Temuka, on “ Duncan Matheson the Scottish Reformer.” The chair was taken by Mr James Blyth, chairman of the Town Board. There was a fair but appreciative audience. During the evening a number of selections were sung by an organised choir. Further particulars of the lecture will appear in a later issue. Football. —A match was played in the Temuka park on Thursday, between teams representing the first and second fifteens of the Temuka District High School, and resulted in a draw after a very spirited contest. —The Junior Flag match between the Colonials and Waihi Second was played at Timara on Thursday, and ended in a win for the Colonials by 2 points] (tries) to nil. Mr LeCren acted as referee and Messrs Ford and Arthur LeCren as umpires for Waihi and Colonials respectively.

Hunt Club Steeplechases. The steeplechases annually held under the auspices of the S.C. Hunt Club are fixed for Thursday next, September 4th, and will take place at Mr Squire’s farm, Wai-iti Road, Timaru, where a capital course has been picked out. A small entrance fee of a shilling will be made to the course. On the following day there will be a Point-to-point Steeplechase, open to all qualified hunter. Post entries will qe made on the ground. The first race on Friday will start at one o’clock, and Friday’s event will be started at 2.3 q p.m. Good entries are expected, as there are some capital fences in the district.

Geraldine Rifles. —The attendance on Parade on Thursday evening last was about twenty. Colonel Bailey was present, and the usual drills were gone through. Lieutenant McKenzie drew the attention of the members of the corps to the fact that forms were being printed which would be distributed to all members who did not attend and did not give a sufficient excuse for their non-attendance. On receipt of one of these notices he said it would be possible to compel the member to pay his fine through the clerk of the court, without going to law. The members who did not attend would also be required to jnake good the capitation lost to the their non-attendance.
