THE CANADIAN SCANDAL.
OttawAj August 19., In the House of Commons Mr Hugh Cameron, member for Inverness, Nova Scotia, is moving to impeach Mr Edward Cochrane, member for Northumberland, for the alleged selling of Government positions in his district. The evidence given by the bankers in the • Ban Challeur railway scandal is damaging to . the Hon. M. Mercier, Premier of Quebec, and M. Pacaud, his A '**'*l manager. Two officials in the ?. „+ Minting bureau in this city Government x..«* *, h / f have been suspends. "** » accepting positions. . August 20. Mr Arnold, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, and Mr Bronskill, liead of the Stationery Department of the Government, have beoij. dismissed over the Canadian scandals. August 21.
The contractor for the Government stationery paid the expenses of Bronskill's family at the seaside f# six years.
It is alleged''that Mercier demanded a commission from the Jesuits for securing them a law judgment. i ! The Sergeant-at-Arms reported that he had beenunable to arrest Mr McGreevy, and the taking of evidence is now closed at Ottawa. •• Mr Pacaud has left Quebec to avoid being served "with a subpoena. August 22. A Boyal.Commission has been appointed to 1 make full enquiries into the alleged «drruptiori»in the Canadian Civil Service.
