FOOTBALL.

A meeting of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was held in the Ship Hotel, Timaru on Tuesday evening. Present- . Messrs Matheson (chairman), Buchanan, South, Thomson, W, M. Storey, and G. Mcintosh (hon. sec.) Correspondence was received from the Southland Union, intimating that they would not be able to send a team up this year; also from North Otago re return match. It was decided to play North. Otago the return match at. Oamaru on Thursday, Sept. 17th, a trial match to take place "at Winchester on Saturday, Sept. 12.—From the Canterbury Rugby Union, intimating that there was no rule in force to prevent members of universities or colleges playing for their own club during their vacations. From the Union Football Club, claiming their match with the Temuka Second by default. It was decided not to uphold the claim, and the match was re-arranged to take place in Timaru on Thursday, August 27tlu The following fixtures for the second round of cup matches were then arranged; Junior—August 20th, Union v. Temuka, at Temuka. August 27th, Colonials r. - Waihi, at Winchester. September 3rd, Temuka v. Colonials, at Timaru; September 10th, Colonials v. Union, at Timaru. The High School and Timaru second, have retired from the contest. Senior—August 20th, Timaru v. T Jnion, at Timaru. August 22nd, Waihi v. Temuka, at Winchester. August 27th, Waihi v. Timaru at 'Winchester. August 27th, Union v. Temuka, at Timaru, September 3rd, Waihi v. Union at Timaru. September sth, Timaru v. aft Temuka.

The following will represent Waihi second in the match with the Union Second at Winchester to-day:—A.Moore,, Henderson (3), South (2), Coles, Bryan, Blissett, Opie, Burborough, Austin, Bell, Fiefield, and Leversidge.. Emergencies, Wakely and Ensor.
