Paris, July 81. Violent riots have itaken place at Toulouse among the tramway men. The military charged the strikers and made numerous arrests. ■ Sydney, Aug. 2. There was considerable excitement at Boiirke yesterday on the arrival of *325 free shearers, including a shipment from New Zealand. When the train was passing Rock it was pelted with stones, and the windows were smashed, but none of the occupants were seri'ously hurt. In consequence of this attack a large force of police with fixed 1 bayonets met the train at Bourke, and * although surrounded by nearly a thousand unionists and others the men were safely convoyed to the steamer. 1 Auckland, August 1. Strike pay to the bootmakers has been slightly increased. The men 'state that the rumours as to their applying south for permission to accept ithe statement without breaking from ! the federation is unfounded. They ! state.that they are as firm as ever in ■their determination to have the federal statement.
