CONCERT.
Although the weather turned but very boisterous on Thursday evening the Pleasant Valley school concert was a decided success financially and otherwise, the schoolroom being comfortably filled. Mr N. Dunlop occupied the chair, and expressed his pleasure at being present on such an occasion, and wished the committee and teachers every success in their efforts to further the work of the school. The : school children then sang very nicely “My Native Land,” followed by Miss Andrews with “ Sunny Shower,” which was rather inappropriate for the occasion, considering that a snowstorm was at that time raging furiously without. Mr Colbert sang “ Jack’s Parting Kiss,” and Misses Gregan and Lysaght took partin the duet “ Eileen Allanah.” Mr Allan brought down the house with the comic song “Pretty Little Sarah,” and responding to an encore sang “Up to Dick.” The school children acquitted themselves very creditably in the song “Highland Laddie,” Mr Thomas gave a recitation, and Mr Skinner brought the first part of the programme to a close with a Scotch air on the bagpipes, for which he was recalled. The second part of the programme was opened by Mrs Connor and Mr Colbert with a pianoforte duet. Mr Allan was encored for the humorous song “ Perambulator,” and responded with “ Never do it now.” Miss Andrews sang with taste “ A Bird in the Hand.” The school children sang with much spirit “ Scotland’s Burning.” Mr Colbert’s comic song “ Waiter! Waiter 1 ” was very laughable. Mr Allan secured another encore for the song “Jack Tarason’s Tripe,” and in return sang “ Imph’m.” “ The Meeting of the Waters ” was sweetly rendered by Misses Gregan, Lysaght, Quaid, and Bennett. Mr Thomas gave a recitation. Mr Skinner was once more recalled for a Scotch air on the bagpipes, and the school children brought an excellent evening’s amusement to a close with singing “ Gentle River,” and “ Auld Lang Syne.” Mr Brophy (chairman of the school committee) moved votes of thanks to Mr Dunlop for his presence among them ; to the teachers of the school and others who had helped to make the concert the success it was, and to Mr James Gregan for the use of his piano. At the dance which followed there was even a larger attendance than at the concert, and dancing was kept up till the sraa’ hours ”of the morning.' Excellent music was supplied by Mr Skinner on the pipes, and Messrs Hullen Bros, on the aceordian. Messrs Hullen acted also as MaQ.’s.
