WINCHESTER SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on Monday last. Present—Messrs A. W. Ensor (chairmap), Jobes, Connolly, Haar, and Bishop. ■ The Head Master’s report was read

and considered. He reported that Miss Frances Hawke had commenced her duties at the end of the holidays, and that four boys and one girl had been admitted into the school during the month. He complained that the attendance of several children was

very irregular; also that the school pump was defective. -—lt was decided to take steps to enforce full attendance, and on the motion of Mr :•-Bishop/seconded'by Mr Jones, to get Mr Haar to repair the pump. The- caretaker’s report was read and considered. She complained that the ' steps leading to the school were in a very bad state, and it was decided to Mr Philp to spread shingle on ' the place/ Accounts to the amount of £2 19s were passed for payment. Proposed by, Mr Bishop, seconded by Mr Haar, and carried—“ That steps be procured for cleaning purposes, etc., the cost not to exceed 12s‘6d> Proposed by Mr Jones, seconded by /Mr Bishop, and carried—“ That the Chairman of the Domain Board be advised to erect closets on the cricket ground.” , Messrs Carston and Bishop were appointed Visitors for the month. It was decided that the visiting committee should arrange for a track to ‘be made to the cesspool. The mating then terminated.
