MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the board was held in the board’s office on the 17th inst. The members present were Messrs R. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, G. J. Dennistoun, and R. Thew. In the absence of the chairman. Mr Tripp was voted to the chair. TENDERS. The following tenders were opened: ■ —No 21 Contract —Improving the road to Section 36092: T. Sugrue, £3O; David Sheehan, £29. Mr Sheehan’s tender was accepted. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was dealt with— From the Plon. J. B. Acland, applying for leave of absence from the meetings of the board during the present session of Parliament.— Granted. From the Mackenzie County Council, forwarding plan of proposed water race district, to lie open for inspection. From the Commissioner of Property Tax, forwarding form of declaration to be filled np and attested, to enable the board to receive' the balance of subsidy on rates collected for the past year. From the Receiver of Land Revenue, advising the board that the sum of £B6 14s had been placed to the board’s credit, being thirds of receipts derived from sections let on perpetual lease. From Mr Thomas Blair, calling attention to an error in the description of his property on the'valuation roll, he being rated with five acres more than he owned.—Resolved that Mr Blair be referred to the Commissioner of Property Tax, as the board has no power to alter areas or values on the roll. From the clerk Geraldine County Council, forwarding the Electoral Roll of the Mount Peel Riding for the current year. From Mr TV. L. Mitchell, calling attention to the bad state of the short length of road from the Rainclitf road „ to the Opihi river, it being the outlet for several ratepayers in the Levels district.—The clerk was directed to furnish Mr Mitchell with a copy of the correspondence with the Levels Road Board on the matter and refer him to that body for further information. From Messrs J. and S. Wilson, applying for pipes to form a crossing on their land from the Mount Michael road.—Granted. From Mr Joseph Turner, stating that he had sold his land on the Waihi Downs, and requesting his name to be taken off the rate roll.—The consent of the purchaser to be obtained. From Mr Thomas Pithie, requesting that the name of Mr C. Jenkins be placed on the roll in place of his for section in Peel Forest. RATE. Mr Dennistonn proposed and Mr Mackay seconded, and it was carried, the resolution of which due notice had been gßen—“ That a general rate of one half-penny in the £ be struck and collected on all rateable property in the Mount Peel Road District, for the year ending 31st March 1892, such rate to include the contributions to the Tiraaru Harbor Board and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and to be payable on the Ist day of October 1891.” Mr Mackay brought before the board.the necessity of a cutting on the north side of the Opuha river to give access to section 36093, as without it the road on the south side would be useless,—The clerk was directed to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking the consent of the Land Board to the expenditure. Mr Dennistoun asked for leave to run a water-race across the Boundary road, Blair’s road, and Lloyd’s road. • —Permission was granted, the crossings oyer the several road to be made under the supervision of the board’s overseer. POISONED WHEAT. Mr Thew gave notice of motion for next meeting to rescind the resolution passed on the 16th May last, charging ratepayers for poisoned wheat. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £65 10s were passed for payment, after which the board adjourned.
