ENTERTAINMENT.

On Tuesday evening the members of the Primitive Methodist Church Choir journeyed to Woodbury, and there in the schoolroom, to a large audience, gave a splendid entertainment in aid of the school prize fund. The Rev. W. C. Wood occupied the chair, and after a few introductory remarks called upon the choir to open with a hymn from Sankey’s hymn book, followed by the chorus ‘ Beautiful Golden Grain.’ Mr Logan came next with the solo ‘ Under the Rod ’ and was loudly applauded. Miss Andrews and Messrs Jones, C. E. Sherratt, and Herdman rendered with good effect the quartette * Lo, my Shepherd is Divine,’’ Mr Herdman followed with the solo ‘ Crown Him ’ in good style. Then came another chorus by the choir ‘ Angels Voices,’ after which Miss E. Sherratt and Master George Wood were encored for their rendering of the duet ‘ Waiting and Watching,’ and, in return sang ‘ Little Mary.’ The Bev. Mr Wood then sang the solo ‘ Jesus Lover.’ The quartette ‘Our Light Afflictioil,’ was the next item by Miss Andrews, and Messrs Jones, Sherratt, and Herdman. Miss Andrews sang ‘ Angels ever bright and Fair,’ with much pathos, and the choir concluded the first part of the programme with ‘Hail Lovely Spring.’ The second part of the programme was opened by the choir with ‘He Rose.’ Mr Logan sang ‘The Fated Crew,’ Master George Wood recited ‘ The Boy’s Grievances,’ and Miss E. Sherratt and Master George Wood sang the duet ‘ A Ruler once Came.’ Mr Jones rendered in his usual brilliant style the solo ‘ Resignation,’and had to respond to an encore. The duet ‘ David and Goliath,’ by Messrs Herdman and C. E. Sherratt went well. The Rev. Mr Wood recited ‘ The Vulgar Boy,’ which was very amusing. The quartette ‘ Come Unto Me,’ was then sang by those who had taken part in the previous ones, and a first-class evening’s amusement was brought to a close by the choruses ‘ Abide with Me,’ and ‘ Saviour breathe my evening Prayer.’ The success of the entertainment was no doubt due to the' strenuous efforts of the individual members of the choir. Mr T. Sherratt acted efficiently as accompanist during the evening.
