GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Committee was held on Tuesday evening last. Present —Messrs 11. H. Pearpoint (chairman), J. W. Pye, W. Shiers, and A. White. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From the Board of Education, advising that a grant of £2 10s had been made towards repairs to fence. From Miss Kimbell, asking for the use of one of the schoolrooms for holding a cooking class.—This matter was discussed, B and left over for further information to be obtained. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The Head Master reported the attendance for 21st July as 204 out of 267 on the roll, or nearly 24 per cent, absent. He could not suggest any way of improving the attendance beyond offering good prizes for ret gular attendance and prosecuting I parents who lay themselves open to f ■ prosecution, s , Several minor items he wished attended to, and he hoped some pressure .jiyould be brought to bear on the board to secure good ven- * tilation before summer. He would be very glad to see the bell once more in working order. It was resolved that the matter of hanging the bell and minor repairs be left in the hands of the visiting committee, and the Town Board be asked to clear the gorse, etc., growing on the wayside to the school. Mr White moved, Mr Shiers seconded, and it was carried that with regard to the very irregular attendance at the school, the compulsory clauses of the Act be brought into force, and, the police be instructed to take the necessary proceedings. The question of cementing the urinal was discussed and the matter was left in the hands of the visiting committee. The question of repairing the fence and planting trees was brought up and the chairman was authorised to see the gardeners, and obtain quotations, and call a special meeting for Monday August 3rd. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £sl6s were passed for payment, and the meeting ’ adjourned.' ,
