TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
| The regular monthly meeting of was held on Tuesday evenling. Present—Messrs E. Brown, W. fStorey, J. Velvin, P. McCaskill, |J. Cooper, and A. Russell. In the absence of Mr Aspinall, Mr W. Storey was voted to the chair. Mr Aspinall jbame in subsequently. ■ . CORRESPONDENCE. I Correspondence was read From Mr Jas. Hatton, relative to the new bell which had been supplied to the order of the committee.—The secretary stated that the bell had been duly fixed. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The head master’s report was as follows: Dear Sir,— l have the honor to submit the following report for the month of June:— Boys. Girls. Total. Average roll ... 187.7 165.7 353.5 Average attendance 154 131.4 285.4 Highest attendance 162 139 301' It will be seen that during June the attendance had risen to its normal height almost. We opened on Monday, 13th inst., with 249, and reached 300 during the week. Our average for last week, however, stands at 274,9 only, the at- 0 • tendance of the Fifth Standard being ■ especially irregular. I enclose cheque for £5 9s, being amount realised by children’s sale of tickets for concert. The following requisites are needed;—lnk and slate pencils.—l have, &c., W. Bbyabs. visitors’ .report, Mr Storey, on behalf of Mr Cooper and himself, reported that the school had been visited during the month, and everything appeared to be working satisfactorily. Two new maps of the world were urgently needed, and there was a leakage from the back spouting which required attention. Mr Aspinall mentioned that the school had been broken open during the holidays by some mischievous boy or boys. Not much damage had been \ done, but the police had been informed of the matter. It was decided that the stationery, ■&c., required be supplied, and that the head master and secretary arrange for a further supply. : . The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board for two new maps, and also again bring before them the question of painting and the condition of the spouting.
FINANCE. The bank book was laid upon the table, and showed the credit balance to be £5 11s 4d, with cash in hand 3s. The prize fund account stood at £7 16s Bd, exclusive of amount derived from last concert. Accounts amounting to £5 16s were passed for payment. It was decided to hold over the payment for the graded floor and bell until the contributions promised by the Education Board came to hand. THE CONCERT. The secretary stated that the concert recently held would probably show a net return of £lO. Some accounts had yet to come in, and also certain tickets. He suggested that the concert committee should meet at an early date and pass the accounts. This was agreed to, and he was instructed to call a special meeting as soon as possible. Mr Aspinall suggested that the prize fund money should be deposited in the Savings Bank, where it would be always accumulating. The matter was briefly discussed, and it was resolved to place moneys accrued and accruing for prize purposes at deposit at the Post Office Savings Bank, in the name of Messrs . Aspinall and Brown as trustees. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the committee to the donors of provisions furnished to the children at the late entertainment; also to the several performers, to the Rev. Father Aubrey, and all who assisted to make the affair a success. He was further instructed to convey to the teaching staff, through the head master, the appreciation of the committee of the manner in which the children’s part of the concert had been carried out. VISITORS. Messrs Russell and Velvin were appointed visitors for the month, and the meeting terminated.
