AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,
Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week-ending. Saturday, ISth July, 1891 :
At the Temuka Live Stock Market on Tuesday the totals yarded were 6980 sheep, 85 cattle, and 65 pigs. The bulk of the entries were sold under keen competition at the following quotations;— Sheep—Three-quarterbred wethers and maiden ewes, 2 and 4-tootb, fat, 16s 9d, 17s, to 18s 9d; three-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes, forward stores, 16s 3d, Us Gd, l4s 7d, 15s, to 15s 3d ; half bred wethers and maiden ewes, forward stores, 16s Gd to I Is; crossbred ewes, fat, 10s Gd, 12s 6d, to 16s; merino wethars, 4s Gd, to 5s ; merino ewes in lamb, 5s ; threequarterbred lambs, 12s 2d. Cattle—. Steers and heifers fat, £5 to £5 12s Gd ; cows, fat, £4 10s, £5, to £5 19s; cows, springing, £2 15s to £3; steers and heifers, 2-year-olds, £2 2s to £2 Gs ; yearlings, £1 Is to £1 ss; calves. 10s.
Pigs—Baconers, £1 13s ; porkers, 17s Gd to £1 : strong stores, 18s to 18s Gd; medium do, 10s to 12s Gd; weaners, ss.
Horses—On Thursday we held our usual sale at Geraldine yards and competition for good sound draught or light harness was good. Our quotations are:—Draughts,£lß to £2O; light harness horses, £lO 10s to £l2. Sheepskins, .etc.—On Wednesday we held our usual fortnightly sale at the rooms of the National 31. & A. Co., N.Z., Limited, Timaru. The attendance of buyers was good, and prices improved as the sale proceeded. Every lot was cleared under keen competition at the following quotations, viz., butchers crossbreds, 4s 9d, os, 5s Id, 5s 2d, to os 4d ; merinos, 3s 8d to 4s; dry skins, 5fd to Gd per lb.
TIMARU MARKETS.
The Canterbury Farmers’ Association Limited report as under.:— Wheat;—-During the past fortnight the market has been very dull. There are few samples offering holders not caring to accept much less than the rates ruling three weeks ago, and buyers being fairly well stocked are only buying at a reduction on former rates. Present values are :4s 2d to 4s 3d for Tuscan, pearl, or velvet, 4s to Is for red chaff. 3s to 3s 4d for seconds, 3s to 3s 5d for whole fowl wheat ; all on trucks Timaru.
Oats. —There is a fair enquiry for duns, Tartars, and seed Danish, but Canadian oats are dull of sale. Values are about Is to Is 7cl for Canadians, Is o|d to Is for Tartars and duns, Is od to Is Gd for Danish. Potatoes.'—Owing to Sydney prices showing an advance, the market is firmer, mud sales are being made at • J2s Gd and Gos f.0.b.. sacks in.
Crass Seed Pyegrass ; All samples offering are finding buyers.
Farmers, parcels are worth from 3s to 4s 6d,i thedatter price, for good heavy seed,
The N.Z. Millers’ Association report on the produce market for. the week as under ;
, Wheat—There has been no change in the market during -the current week. Millers’ stocks being adequate for present requirements, they are not disposed to pay the prices asked by farmers who still hold small lots of grain, and in view of, the present outlook at Home millers are not inclined to increase stock at any improvements on late rates. We quote buying prices as follows : Tuscan 4s 3d, velvet 4s 2d, red chaff 4s to 4s Id for prime milling samples on trucks Timaru.
Oats—There has been no change since our last report, as the demand is very small. Prime Canadian milling sorts Is Sd feed oats Is 6d. Danish Is 5d on trucks;
The following are the selling prices of milling products ; Flour—£l2 per ton for sacks. Oatmeal—£9 10s in 251bs, and £8 10s in bulk.
AVlieatmeal— £ll 10s per ton Bran—£3 15s, Pollard—£4,
ENGLISH MARKETS,
London, July 16,
New Zealand long berried wheat 41s 6d, Cargoes on passage are offering at 39s 9d, but buyers offer 39s 3d,
New Zealand hemp is firm; the latest sales show an advance of 5s per ton.
Wellington imitton, 3§d per lb: lamb, 5d ; Canterbury is unchanged ; beef, hind-quarters, 4§d.
South Australian wheat, flat at 42s 6dy Victorian, 425. The American visible supply is 18,100,000 bushels.
