AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,

Mr E. 11. Guinness for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), reports for the past four weeks ended Saturday, July 11th. as follows :—-

Sheep—The exchanges both by auction and privately have considerably exceeded previous years’ transactions for the corresponding month, the demand for all classes being very great, consequently nearly every line placed on the market brought first-rate prices.

Cattle—Prime beef is getting scarcer, and prices are inclined to advance. In stores, transactions are virtually nominal. Steers in forward condition suitable for fattening are saleable up to a certain figure. Temuka Yards—At these yards large entries have come forward and sold well. In conjunction with Mr A. E. Cox, on the 16th ultimo, we yarded 3924 and sold 3474 sheep, 13 head cattle, and 21 pigs, all at prices satisfactory to the vendors. On the 30th ultimo we sold the following lines under keen competition : —9O fat crossbred wethers at 16s 2d, 112 halfbred store wethers at 12s lid, 270 2-tooth crossbreds at 12s Bd, 99 halfbred hoggets at 9s, and a few small lines, also 8 head fat cattle, and 52 store pigs at prices ranging from 6s 6d to IBs 6d. Geraldine Yards —On the 24th ultimo, in conjunction with Mr A. E. Cox, there was a good entry of sheep of all sorts, with a large proportion of half and three-quarterbreds in forward condition, which sold well. The following sales were effected by us at auction :—62 halfbred 2-tooths at 14s Gd, 34 do do at 14s 4d, 198 do do at 13s Id, 85 fat crossbred ewes at 12s Gd, 27 prime fat merino Avethers at 11s Bd, 140 merino ewes in lamb at ss, and 202 small 2-tooth halfbreds at 9s 6d. On the Bth inst., a fair entry and brisk sale from start to finish, not a line in our hands being unsold; 100 2rtooth halfbreds at 14s Id, 40 fat tliree-quarterhreds at l4s 7d, 54 2-tooth halfbreds at 14s Id, 73 fat halfbred ewes at 10s 9d, 41 do three-quarter-bred ewes at 12s 3d, 324' crossbred hoggets at 9s lOd, 54 halfbred ewes at 10s, 179 crossbred hoggets at 11s 9d, 51 fat crossbreds at 13s, 95 merino cavcs in lamb at 5s 7d, 100 do do do at Gs Gd, and 3 pet crossbreds at 32s apiece.

Sheepskins ami Wool —There was not a large attendance of the trade, and consequently prices were slightly easier at the last fortnightly sale. Privately and by auction we have disposed of 7802 skins, 8 bales and 22 bags wool; best factory crossbreds at ds 6d to os 9d, second quality at os 2d to os 4d, butchers’ os 3d, os Gd, to os 8d for extra heavy, second at 4s Gd, 4s 9d, to os, best merinos at 4s, 4s 3d, to 4s Gd, second at 3s Gd to 3s 9d, country lots from Is Gd to os 3d according to size and condition. Hides —Are in better demand, and we have,no difficulty.in quitting at late quotations, GGlb and over at 4d, 601 b to Golb at. 3£d, ollb to o9ib at 2|d, oOlb and under at cut and damaged at l|d, calves’ skins at 3jd per lb. Fat—All on., hand at late quotations, Land—We have to report selling the following sections on the Seadown Estate; —No. GO, IGB-2-2G, to Mr Harry Oldfield; No. Hif 112-0-18, to Mr P. D. Hoare. Several others are in treaty for and will no doubt be disposed of during the week.
