THE LATE CALEDONIAN SOCIAL'S REFRESHMENTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— With your permission I will make a few remarks re the dispensing of refreshments at the late social. In your report of the 27th June was a remark to the effect that the ladies had to sit and wait while their partners in the last dance gurmandised unsparingly at the refreshment table; Allow me to state that such was ,not the case, as most of the ladies were served first, and I challenge you Or any of your reporters to say otherwise. Where did you get your information from ? Tom, Dick, and Harry, , ! suppose, and then, when some of the officials spoke to you, you come out, in a hole-and-corner fashion, and say your reporter was not there and you cannot allow him to be blamed for it. Take my advice, sir, and when reporting any of the socials at any future time report the truth' and do not damage a, society whose name is second to none in the colony. —I am, etc., John M. Naughton. Wincnester, July 3rd, 1891,
[We got our information from persons in high authority at the social in fact, from some of the officers. We are ready to give their names to Mr Naughton or anyone else. There wa nothing further from the thoughts o' the writer in the first instance than to damage the society. It would not. suit him to do so. Mr Naughton will do no good by publishing letters of this sort.—Ed.]
