AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

Messrs J. Mundell and Co., report sales for the week endmg Wednesday, Ist July, 1891 :

At the Geraldine Live Stock Market the sale throughout was brisk, with prices improving as business proceeded. The yardings consisted of 3200 sheep, 55 cattle, and 47 pigs. The following prices were realised during the sale : Sheep—Half and three-quarter-bred wethers and 'maiden ewes in forward condition, lis sd ; 14s IM, to 15s 4d;

crossbred ewes,; fat, 13s 9d to 14s; three-quarter-bred hoggets, 10s 6d to lis ; merino ewes in lamb, 5s to 5s 3d. Cattle—Cows, fat, £3los, £4 17s 6d, £5, to £5 ss; dry cows, £1 to £1 17s 6d; yearling steers and heifers, £1 to £1 3s. I Pigs ■ — Baconers, £1 6s ; strong ' stores, 15s 6d to 19s ; weaners, 5s to 5s 3d. , TEJIUKA. | At the Temuka Live Stock Market the totals yarded were 2900 sheep, 89 cattle, and 45 pigs. The bulk of the entry was cleared at the following quotations : .Sheep—Three-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes, 4 and 6-tooth, 17s 7d, half and three-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes in forward condition, 15s to 15s 3d; crossbred ewes, fat, 12s 6d to 14s 9d; three-quarter-bred hoggets, 10s tollsOd; merino ewes in lamb, ss; merino wethers, fat, 7s 3d; merino wethers, stores, 4s 7d. Cattle—Cows, fat, £5 10s to £5 15s ; steers, fat; £6 to £6 10s ; cows, light weights, £3 10s to £4; 3-year-old steers in forward condition, £3 to £3 ss; 2-year-old steers and heifers, £1 7s to £1 10s; yearlings, 16s to £l. Pigs—Baconers, 17s 6d to £1; weaners, 4s 3d to ss. Clearing Sales —On account of Messrs Carston Bros., Winchester, we held a clearing sale on Tuesday 23rd, of blacksmiths' plant and carriages. I The public attended in large numbers, every line being sold at prices most satisfactory to the vendors. On account of Mr John Woulfe we conducted a clearing sale of his farm, live, and dead stock, furniture and effects ; the sale throughout was good, the land especially elicited keen competition, and was secured by John Adgesson at £25 10s per acre. Sheepskins, etc.—On Wednesday we held our usual fortnightly sale of the above at the stores of the National M. and A. Co., N.Z., (Limited), Timaru, We submitted a full catalogue to a fair attendance of the trade. We have to record a drop of 4d to 5d on the best lines of butchers skins, the quotations for which are 4s 6d, 4s 7d, to 4s 9d; dry skins sold well at s£d to s|d per lb.

CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Corn Exchange report (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending July 3:— Very little business has transpired during the part week in wheat, owing to the latest cables showing a downward tendency in the London Market. However, holders do not show any inclination to give way at the moment. Oats —Several parcels have changed liands, both in milling and feed sorts, at quotations. Barley—Very few samples have been on offer of either feed or malting, but the latter commands a fair enquiry. Beans and Peas —Several lines of the former have changed hands where unbroken and fit for shipment to the United Kingdom, whilst peas are somewhat neglected. Grass Seed Rye, the enquiry is now setting in, but the supply is likely to be stunted. The same remark may apply to potatoes. Several large parcels of Derwents have been quitted at quotations. The following are present values:— Wheat—Tuscan, milling,. 4s 3d to 4s 4d; pearl, 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; Hunters, 4s Id to 4s 2d. Oats —Prime milling, Is lOd; short heavy feed, Is 9d ; Danish and long, Is 6d to Is 7d. Barley Malting, 3s to 3s 3d ; second quality, 2s ; 3d to 2s 9d ; feed, 2s. Beans and Peas —2s 8d to 2s 9d for the former. Peas—Blue Prussians, 3s; feed, 2s 5d to 2s Gd. Grass Seed —Town machine-dressed 5s 3d to 5s Gd. Cocksfoot, prime, s|d to s^d. Potatoes—Derwents, 20s to 22s Gd, at country stations within a 12-mile radius. Dairy Produce—Butter, no material change. Cheese, 3-|d to 4d. The above quotations are those paid to fanners, f.o.b. Lyttelton, sacks extra. Potatoes excepted.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday there was a large number of stock yarded. Store Sheep There were about 1500 yarded. * The principal lines were hoggets, which sold at 8s 4d to 12s, aged merino ewes in lamb at 5s 3d to 5s 4d, and crossbred ewes at 12s.

Fat Sheep—There were under 3500 sold, of which there was a larger proportion of merinos than usual. Best crossbred wethers brought from 2d to 2Jd per lb, and ewes from Ifd; merino wethers sold at 2d to inferior quality from l-|d net weight.

Fat Cattle—lGß head were offered. The demand for best quality was good, so that prices improved considerabty. Best steers sold from £6 10s to £8 ss, and yielded 21s per 1001 b. Good sorts of heifers brought close up to this, and lower quality half. Fat beasts sold at from IBs to 18s per 1001 b.

Store Cattle There Avas only a small entry of 70 head of mixed lots. One line of nice forward-conditioned steers sold at £,4 10s a head. Fifty dairy cows were offered, but the sale was hard and a good few remained unsold.

Pigs—About 350 pigs, principally porkers and baconers, met with a dragging market. Prices for best baconers remained firm at 2£d to M, and heavier weights at 2d to 2id.
