TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present— Messrs Blyth (Chairman), P. Coira, S. Clinch, G. Mason, and W. Storey. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read from Mr Peter Thomson in reference to demand of rates, stating that the occupier of his property would pay the same. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board acknowledging receipt of cheque, value £9 15s lid, share of the Board's contribution to Hospital and Charitable Aid. From Ashburton Gas and Coke Company, acknowledging receipt of cheque for tar. From Messrs Smithson and . Raymond, enquiring location of certain property. From the Property Tax Commissioners, covering form of declaration in reference to amount of rates collected prior to July Ist, and requesting that the same might be duly filled in and returned, in order to enable the Board to receive balance of subsidy. From Mr W. Storey, asking that the name of W. Martin Storey might be placed on the roll in respect of section 311 in place of that of applicant. —Agreed to. LAMPS.. Mr Coira asked if anything was to be done in refence to the placing of a lamp near the Bank of New Zealand, as recommended by the police at the last meeting of the Licensing Committee. The Chairman said he thought that the proper course would be for the police to make a formal application in reference to same. Mr Clinch, as a member of the Licensing Committee was prepared to bring the. matter forward as a recommendation from that body* Mr Mason moved that a lamp be placed midway between the Temuka and Wallingford Hotels, the actual position to be selected, by the chairman and Mr Coira.-r-Seconded by Mr Coira and carried. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer's report was to the following effect: — In accordance with instructions arrangements had been made with Mr Hopkinson for. carting shingle for repairs, and urgent works Jiad been done. l had suffered through heavy carting. It r was suggested that it should be protected v by heavy stone blocks. Leases of reserves would .expire the current month, except that of No. 800. Instructions were asked as to advertising same. Attention was drawn to certain repairs and alterations required to watertables-, and footpaths. The work could be readily done by the surfaceman. The overseer was authorised to have the suggested work done. On the motion of Mr Storey it was decided to put stone guards to the culverts at Mr Brown’s corner, and at the railway culverts at the south crossing. Mr Mason moved—“ That tenders be called for the lease of reserves for seven years, the same to be advertised in the Temuka Leadeb.” ACCOUNTS. . Accounts to the amount of £3B 4s 3d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
