FOOTBALL.

TIMARUV. WAIHI.

. The senior match Waihi was ..brought eff on Saturdsynfternoon on the. Athletic Club’s ground, and resulted in a win for the latter olnb by 2 goals (9 points) to nil. The weather and greund were all that could be desired and as both dabs' had an unbeaten record in premicship matches, the public, expecting to sees close and interesting game, mastered in strong force. The game''was splendidly played throughout. Of the Waihi three-quarters it would be very hard to say whether Morrison or Sballarard played the better game; both showed sound defence and pdt in some nice kicking. Opie played well when he got a show, turning his pace to a good account on several occasions;' but Shallard should have given him more liberty by passing'out. McLeod was excellent at half, dibbling well/ and passing very nicely at times, while the younger Opio, considering it war his first appearance at hslf, showed a good tarn of speed, and several times pained considerable ground by feinting to pass. He should come round the scrams, however, much faster than bo did on Saturday. The forwards were a fine heavy lot—Hart (2), Turnbull, Brinkman, and Blake doing some really first class work in the scram, while Stewart (2), Wakely, and Shallard were all there in the loose and on the line, Turnbull is a decided acquisition to the club. He played a hard game right through, and will with practice, make one of the best forwards in the district. Several times Shallard, L. Stewart, and Turnbull pat in some splendid dribbling, second only perhaps to that which the Timaru skipper has shown when he ii in the best of form.

The following is the team seleeted to represent Temuka first m their eup match with the Union Club (Timaru). The match will take place in the Victoria Park, Temuka, on Thursday, Julv 2nd.
