RAUKAPUKA LICENSING COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present—Messrs W. M. Moore (Chairman), Gh J. Dennistoun, Allan Macdonald, and E. Thew. CORRESPONDENCE.

Correspondence was read from Mr F. W. Stubbs, Clerk County Council, and the Under Secretary of Justice, acknowledging receipt ef copy of the resolution passed at laßfc meeting. the act ot 1881.

The Committee discussed the subject of amending the -Act of 1881, Mr Dennistoun proposed, Mr TheM. seconded, and it was carried—'' That this Committee recommend, that with a view to the stopping of Sunday traffic the word ' Bnpply ' be inserted in lieu of the word ' sell' or ' sale ' in all clauses of the Act dealing with the illicit sale of liquor; also, that clause 150 should have the following addition made to it: ' Provided that such travellers or ledgers shall not obtain any such liquor tor the use of any person not a bona fide traveller or lodger during the hours mentioned in section 154 of the Act of 1881."

Mr Moore proposed, Mr Dennistoun seconded, and it was carried—" That this Committee recommend that sections 177 ask 180 of the Act of 1881 be amended and special inspectors appelated for each provincial district, to take samples of liquor for analysis, have the same analysed by a public analyst, and have power to prosecute in cases of adulteration,"

THI COMMTXII's BBSPOWSIBIHTIES, The Committee next discussed the subject of their own responsibilities and powers, and expressed their full determination to act on their own personal knowledge and on well substantiated complaints. They would have full enquiry into the matter of renewing licenses to those licensees who did not conduct their houses in a proper manner. They agreed that it would hot be necessary to obtain legal convictions against the licensee before moving in the matter.
