Protection, —The council of the Protection League of Otago hava passed a resolution recommending that the duty on patent and proprietory medicines imported be not less than 100 per cent,, and that the tariff be amended so that the importer should pay the same rate on all kinds of machinery, including mining machinery ; that there should be no exemptions in the tariff; that all manufactured articles should pay duty, seeing that in one year £150,000 bad been sent ont of the colony for machinery which could hava been manufactured in the colony
