Sydney, June 18. The Daily Telegraph in an article on the Financial Statement delivered in the New Zealand Parliament on Tuesday night commends the financial proposals of the Government.
The electons continue to excite the the greatest interest. Of the 53 members returned, the local optionists claim 32. In last night’s estimate most of the Übonr reprenenUtives were credited to the Opposition, bat as they have determined to sit on the cross benches the following will give o belter idea of the strength of the parties t—Ministerialists, 80 ; Opposition 6 ; labour and independent, 18, Mr Dibbs, leader of the Opposition, is not yet returned) but is a candidate in another election which is fixed for June 22nd. Amongst other prominent men rejected is Mr O’Connor, the i Postmaster-General, and Mr Abigisl.
