Houndbrs. —The girls attending the Temuka Convent school and the Temuka Public school met in the Temuka Park in a game of rounders on Thursday afternoon, when almost all the children from both schools ire re present, as well as a good number of adults. The team picked to represent the Convent embraced several “ ringers," who, however, had bid farewell to school and its studies. It was understood that the Public School were to take the same number of outsiders. However, fresh appointments bad to be made in the former team, owing to objections, which weakened it. The time agreed on to be played was an hour. The Temuka School were first to bat, but were all disposed of by a catch by M. La very, Jessie McLeod (captain), scoring 1 rounder. The Convent School wore quickly put out for 1 rounder, which was scored by B. Connolly. This, however, took one in. The Public School’s second innings closed with a catch, J. McLeod again scoring, and the Convent School’s score was not increased. In the third innings J. McLeod contributed 2 rounders, one of which was disputed, on account of a "stop," N. Fenton also scored a rounder, which made 5 rounders for three innings. This team had no " taking in.” In the third round M. La very (captain), H. Burke, and B. Connolly scored a rounder each, and the team was not desposed of when time was called. The whole affair was badly arranged, as throughout the players were obstructed by onlookers. Much interest secured to be taken in the match, and players by no means yielded first place to the excited football team. The Convent School girls wore a gold star. Messrs Russell and Fenton umpired, and gave their decisions iu a satlefac'ory manner. The scores were: Temuka School, 5 rounders; Convent School, 4 rovoders, one of which was a "take in." Another match will shortly take place, and both schools signified their intention of going into training.
