Thutaday avening wvaa vary exciting time for temperance peopia in Geraldine, when Mr IEI Tennyson Smith made his first appearance before a Geraldine audience; Long before the time ap- i Oddfellawa' Hall was completely filled, many having come from the outlying districts to bear this brilliant oratitfj. Mr Smith delivered Gough's famous oration," For the Sake of Others ” with great zest and aarnestnesa. Mr W, E. Barker occupied the chair, and briefly introduced Mr Smith, who, in bis opening remarks, spoke of tha very, great encouragement be had received at Temuks. He had never been so much encouraged in his life as whan be saw at one of bis meetings at Trmnka 100 persons some forward and sign the pledge. la hia concluding remarks ha asked the people of. Geraldina to dp aa* $e people Tamnka had done. A gantleman from the back of the hall thereupon stepped forward and pat hie name to th« pledge, and then followed a very eiciting half hour. A number of ladies and gentlemen sang a few well-known hymns, While old and and yonng crowded op on to the platform to sign the pledge, until no leas than 41 persona had pat their names to the pledge never to; touch, taste, nor handle intoxicating liqnor.
