GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this board was held yesterday. Present Messrs Pletman (chairman), Kelland, Deßeozy, Bropby, sod Metcalf.

Tenders were received for olesrisg Manuka and forming dray track at Kakahu Bush J. Kalaneher, £2O ; O. Borrell, £l7 10s; J. Sugrne, £l2(aooepted). The following tenders were received for building porches at cottages Talbot street; Waters, £l3 9s ; Olouatoo, £ll 18* ; Dean, £ll (accepted).

The chairman opened a short discussion on whether it would be advisable to endeavor to get the law so amended that the chairmen of town boards end road beards should constitute the county oouneil by virtue of their office, without having to resort to the present system of a separate election, and a motion was passed on (be matter, which, for several reasons, the board thought unwise to publish at present.

Correspondence was read and dealt wi'h as follows J From Mt w,. (3. Dann, offering to sell poisoned wheat, at psr bushel of 801 b, put op in 101 b bags, at 17s ; 2oz. strychnine to the bnebel.—Six bushels to be ordered. From Mr F. Every, asking to have the road line at the back of his land made passable, — Granted. From Mr Q. Rae, asking to have the name of Mr S. Mcllroy placed on the ratepayers’ roll in his stead.—Granted. From the secretary of the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board, acknowledging deposit of board’s half-yearly (first) moiety due.—Received. From Mr E. Speeehley, asking that the name of Mr J. Allan, of Kakahu, be placed on the rate roll in place of bis own. —Mr Allan’s consent to be obtained. From Mr A. McLeod, Kakahti, asking for consent to license to slaughter on farm R.S, No. 25799, Kakahu.—Board offered no objection. From Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., Christchurch, stating that he would bring the board’s request re the importation of steals and weasels before the Hon. Minister of Lands.—Received.
From Mr George D. Wreatball, asking that the board postpone consideration of the application of Mr Foster for formation of road running through bis perpetual lef.se section in Gapes’ Talley, pending his final appeal to the Chief Surveyor. Sinee he bought the land the road had been removed from its old position to another port of his land, against the wishes of the majority of owners of land to which it gives access, and he would strongly' oppose its removal as quite unnecessary, and so inflating a great injustice upon himself. From the Chief Surveyor, slating that the reports from the Road Board and Mr Mathias, both showed that the new line on Mr Wroathall’s land was a bettor oce; but be weald leave it to his successor (who would probably visit the ground), to settle the matter.— I The board decided after a short discussion to do nothing .further until the mailer is settled by (be Laud Board.
From Mr Henry Homes, making application for a slaughterhouse license f'>r R.S. IGOOB3, Hilton.— Referred to the County Council.
From Messrs Smith, Dennietoun and Co., Peel Forest,-stating that they were fencing riverbed section 86160 below Creak Station, and asking board to move foot-plank on to the road line.—Work to ba done.
From Mr F. W. Stubbs, county clerk, stating that the council hart decided to put the Orari bridge in thorough repair Jar wheel trsflc, in accordance with the engineer’s estimate, using the present decking as far as it will go.—Beoeiyed. From the same, asking to have a return of the receipts and expenditure for the year end tog March 81st, in accordance with section 817 ef the Counties Act, 1876. —Attended to. OTSSIBXB'f BEFOBT.
The overseer reported as follows : “ Sib,—l have the honor to report for the month as follows Works ; Contract 332 has been completed stoce lari meeting ; this completes the contracts let last year. The following roads have been attended j to and repaired during the past month, viz., JBelfield Orari, Shaw's, Brown’s, j Foster’s Bush, and Pleasant Valley roads. As the weather has changed, and we may expect more wet, there are several roads which will repuire light shingle repairs, f would request authority to get the work done at a suitable time when the weather suits.—Gorse : I have issued a number of gorae notices as directed, but very little has been done so far to comply with the board's order as to clearing, one or two only having made a commencement. Foster’s bush track : Pending the decision of the chief surveyor as to which line of road is to be adopted, I have bad a por» tint, of the scrub cleared from the old line of road so as to admit of the bush being worked. —Cottages : Tenders have been invited for porches at the cottages in Talbot street. 1 find on inspection that the shingles on the roofs are decayed and ought to be replaced with corrigated iron to keep out, the rain.—Audit: The accounts for the past year were audited on the 20th of last month.—Pipes : A supply of pipes for culverts will be required, as the stock is running short.—l have, Ac., “ WxißUJ* SfIJBBS, “ Overseer,”
The report was adopted and it was decided not to do any farther work to the cottages io Talbot Street for the present and the clerk was instructed to lay quotapipes for culverts before next' meeting.
