LICENSING COMMITTEES.

GERALDINE. The annual meeting of the Geraldine Licensing Committee was held yesterday. Present —Messrs A. White (Chairman), H. B. Webster, and F. R. Worner, BBHBWALS. Renewals of licenses were granted to A. W. Post, Geraldine Hotel; John Farrell, Crown Hotel; Esther Helioway, Bsih Hotel. OBVIBA£. The inspector asked that the'licenses of eaeh of these houses should be cautioned about keeping men on their premises who are known to be given to excessive drinking, unless they are boarders; also against keeping townspeople in their houses after hours, and Sunday trading. Mr Webster remarked that the Committee ought to give the licensees notice that if they continued to act as they had in the matter of Sunday trading, etc., the committee would tske their conduct into very serious consideration when they again applied for a renewal of license. The committee were about to make a fresh start, and they could not do hotter than at once see that every means were taken to keep the houses of the district in proper order. The chairman thought the licenses were very foolish to act as they bad, and for hie part he.had determined to put hie foot down on Sunday trading and trading with children Ihe moderates had got m hy a very narrow, squeak and he hoped this would be a caution to the licensees to conduct their houses in a proper manner. RAUKAPUKA. The annual meeting of the Raukapnka Licensing Committee was held yesterday. Present—Major Moore (Chairman), Messrs 9. J. Dennistoun, J, Holland, and Allan Macdonald. BBBBWAM. Renewal* of licenses ware granted to the fol lowing :—Thomas Clayton, Star of the South, Rangitata; W. Wheelband, Bangitata Traffic Bridge ; H. Homes, Hilton. aftNßßAti Mr Dennistoun wished to impress upon the licensees that the committee wore determined to put down Sunday drinking and the telling of adulterated liquor. The meeting then terminated.
