The Dunedin Jockey Club were favored with fine weather for the first day of the -Birthday Meeting, and the attendance was fair, while the?racing was good. The sum of £5444 went through the machines. The Hurdles, of 100 sovs, was won by Mr Paneti's Wairua ; the Maiden Plate, of 80 sovb, by Mr Webb's Crown Jewel; the Birthday Handicap, of 350 sovs, by Mr Martin's Eetina; the Trot, of 100 sovs, by Amateur (63aec), the Selling Eace, of 60 sova, by Mr Esler's Derby ; the Tradesman's Handicap, of 155 aovfl, by Mr Rutharford's Kulniue, and the Post Stakes, of 20 sovs, by Mailboy, At the*Sydney Turf Club's Queen's Birthday Meeting on Saturday the Roval Stakes, of 400 sovs, was won by : Elmore j. Turf Club Handicap, of 200 sovs, by Rover, and the Turf Club Handicap, ol 200 sovs, by Rover. A cablegram from London, dated the 23rd, states that the Manchester Cup was won by Lily of Lumley, Nagimund second, and The Admiral third.
