TEMUKA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The first social of the wagon of the Temuka Caledonian Society was held last Friday evening in-the Volunteer Drillshed, Temuka. The large hall was beautifully decorated, and Mr T. G-unnion, who carried out the arrangements under the supervision of the Committee, deserves great praise for his part of the work. , The Committee were Messrs D. Henry, W. McLeod, J. McUaskill, C. Newbury, A. W. Mann, and F. Archer, and they may be congratulated , on the excellence of the arrangenments. The catering was performed by Mr D. McCaskiil", to the entire satisfaction of all. The. music was supplied by Messrs McCarthy (violin), Levena (piane), and Andrews (clarionet), and it is nat too much to say that better dance mus'c has not been heard in Temuka. Mr McCarthy is a splendid violinist, and played a selection during the evening in a manner that weuld do credit to a professional player, As a musician he is really a great acquisition to Temuka. The following programme was gone through:—Selec tion (bagpipes) ; march polkai;Caledonians; song, Mr H. T. Clinch; schottiache; quadrille; song, Mr J. .McCaskiil; majarka; reel; song, Mr Green; selection; waltz; lancers; •ook, Mr Kroon; H. schottische; albert*; song, Mr H. T. Clinch; , mazurka; quadrille; march waltz; ; schottische; Caledonians; mazurka; lancers; H. schottische; alberts; mazurka; quadrille, waltz; Oircissiafl circle Miss Quinn accompanied the singers, and acquitted hereelf most satisfactorily. The attendance was not altogether so large as on gome previous occasions, but still \he Hall was comfortably full, and those present enjoyed themselves to their

beartß' content. Dancing was kept up spiritedly into " the wee sina* hours," when all separated, feeling they had enjoyed a splendid evening's amusement. Daring the evening Mr Mabin played several selections on the bagpipes in a manner that gave unqualified satisfaction
