CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

'I he following is the Corn Exchange report (por N. P. Meyers, Secretary), for the week ending Friday, May 22nd: — Since our last report we have to note a better tone in the English and Continental wheat market, and locally our last, week’s quotations have been fully maintained. Oats remain quiet, with only a local enquiry, and the same remark applies to barley. Beans and peas are steady at our quotations, but grass seeds are easy, it being out of season. Potatoes have thoroughly collapsed, and are difficult to place at any figure. This is chiefly on account oi the sudden fall in Sydney prices,

which have gone down to the nnprecedently low figure of £2. This we think, however, will only bt momentary, and we hope to be able within the next few weeks to report more favorably with respect to the ‘ tater.’ Dairy produce remains firm; with an active inquiry for good makes. Quotations are as follow Wheat—Tuscan, 4s to 4a Id ; pearl, 3s lid to 4a; hunters, 3s lOd to 3s lid ; second-quality milling, 8s 6d; broken, 2s 9d to 3s.
