OFTHiS Hrtu H isIOCK MARKET'S At the Addington yards on Wednesday the entry of stock was considerably less than recently. Store Sheep—The entry was limited, being confined chiefly to merino ewes with a few crossbred lambs. Merino ewes, chiefly culls, sold at from 2s to 8s 8d and wethers from 6s 3d to 6s Bd, one line of about 1000 being disposed of at 6s 6 I, a few boilers were s dd at 4s Id, crossbred lambs at 8s to 9s, and crossbreds, breeding ewes, 9s to 10s8d
Fat yarded in the fat pens. There was a large number of merino wethers, only a few of which were of prime quality and scarcely any compared with the entry of the week previous The highest price for merinos was 15s 4d, while a greater proportion sold at from 7s 9d to 10s 4d Crossbreds were a fairly even lot wjth but few very heavy sheep; pens of wethers were sold at from 12s 6d to 16s 3d, a few in adtance of this, and ewes brought from 9s to 14s according to quality. A few Chatham Island crossbred Romneys were sold at 18s to 13s 4d.
Fat Cattle ordinary sorts were yarded and the demand was very slack. There was a decided drop in values, best steer and heifer beef only realising from 16a to 17s 6d per 1001 b. Cows and inferior stock were very , dull of sale at from lls upwards. The want of grass telling on holders of young stock caused
the entry of store, cattle to-be much larger than previously, but the samo cause makes them difficult to sell al anything like reasonable values. Calves, Stores, etc. —Several lines of calves sold at from 7s to 9s 6d, and some yearlings at 18s, year-and-a-half-olds were sacrificed at 27s j steers brought £3 2s. ihe sale of old cows was very dull. Prime dairy cows were sold at good values. ' Pigs—About 400 pigs, chiefly porkers and baconers, were disposed of at prices rather under latest qnotiafeiona baconera under 1501 b commanding nearly 3d per lb and heavier sorts from 2^d.
DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS,
The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday:— Wheat—Market easier, but prices remain about the same* Prime tuscans and velvets, 4s 7d to 4s 8d; other good milling sorts, 4s 4d to 4s 6d; fowls’ wheat, good whole, 3s lOd to 4s. Barley Malting, 3a to 3s 3d ; milling, 2s 4d to 2a 6d ; feed, 2a to 2s 2d ; pearl barley, 4; 13. Oats are firm and in good demand ; all coming forward are easily placed off trucks. Prime milling and bright plump feed, Is 6£d to Is 7d (sacks extra, ex truck) ; medium to good, Is 6d to Is 6d (sacks extra). Flour—Timaru roller, £l2 ; stone, £ll ss. Oatmeal, £8 to £8 10s. Bran, £3 10a to £4. Sharps, £4 to to £4 10a. Potatoes Glutted, and prices receded during the week—£2 2s 6d to £2 10s.
Onions—£6. Linseed, £l4. Pigs—3id for prime bacon sizes, 1501 b tol70)b; hams, 7d to 8d; bacon. 5d to 6d.
Chaff—Well cut and beayy and riddled, £2 7s 6d to £2 12s 6d. Turnips—lss to 18s. Carrots, 30s to 35s
btraw—(Oaten and wheaten), 80s to 355. Hay (oaten), £3. Clover and ryegrass hay, £3 ss. Butter—Prime salt, 8d per lb (kegs extra or returnable) ; prime fresh Taranaki in 11b pats, lid per-lb. Lgg« Getting more plentiful. Honey, 5d per lb. Cheese Factory, 4d to 4£d; Akaroa, 3£d to 4d. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, farmers’. 3a 9d to 4s 6d; machined, 5s 6d to 5a 9d; cocksfoot, 4|d to 6£d, and in good demand.
Hides—Prices for prime are somewhat firmer. Of light and more inferior sorts the quantity offering is still in excess of requirements, and consequently prices for such are low and unsatisfactory. Last week’s , quotations, which are without change, may be repeated. Tallow and Rough Fat—r-For-clean fresh caul fat 13s to 13s 6d pier cwt is readily paid; second quality, 12s to 12s 6d ; butchers’ rough fat, 10s 6d to Us 6d; inferior, 9a 6d to 10s. Sheepskins—At the sale on Tuesday best green crossbreds brought 4a to 4s 3d; a few selected shins, suitable for mat; purposes, to 4s 6d; average crossbreds or halfbreds, 3s 6d to 8s 9d; inferior, 2s 9d to Bagreen merinos, 2a 4d to 3s ; lambs, 3s to 3s 9d; early shorn dry country skips, with pelts in good condition, 4s to 4s lid; medium, 2s 9d to 3s 3d; light, Is 9d to 2s 3d; bare pelts, 9d to Is 3d. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—2s3 head yarded. The average prices for the day were decidedly easier, the sale being one of the most dragging and unsatisfactory experienced for some time. Best bullocks brought £6 15s to £8 10s ; one extra heavy, £9 ss; average weights, £6 to £6 10s ; light, £4 5a to £5 ss; others below the last mentioned figures being taken by graaiers. Prime cows and heifers realised £5 to £6 10s; extra good, to £6; medium, £3 15m to £4 5s ; inferior, 40s to 60s.
Fat beep-—2500 yarded. The sale opened with a keen demand, and the various lots submitted changed hands for a time at prices fully equal to the highest rates at last week’s sale. Towards the finish, however, medium Mass sheep suffered a drop of quite Is per head in comparison with earlier transactions, the best sheep being also a little easier in price. In the best wethers various sales were made at 16s, one pen changing hands at 16s 3d ; medium to good, 14s 6d to 15s; light weights, 13s to 13s 9d ; prime mixed crossbreds, 14s to 14s 9d j in ewes one or two pens of extra heavy sheep brought 15s and 15s 9d ; goad; 12s 6d to 13s 6d ; medium, lls to 12a; light, 9a 6d to 10a 3d. Lambs—2B penned,'the same selling up to lls Pigs which were bacon pigs. Good average weight bacon pigs brought 34s to 38s, prime to 425, a few extra heavy to 475, porkers 22s to 28s and 30s, stores 14s to 17s 6d, suckers 5s 6d to 12s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. .
