CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
SO SHE EDITOR, Slß,—l was much pleased to read in your report of the Geraldine Town Board that Mr Huadell had drawn attention to the starved animals about the district. Clan you inform your readers, Mr Editor, in the absence of a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals in this place, who is to look after the animals? We are aware Urtt if a na-.n should get a piece of skin off his horse a shoulders iu ploughtog stoney land he is brought before the court, and sometimes imprisoned, but I do uot know of anyone having been brought to book for starving 3 or 4owt. of flesh off their animals. I have heard of three animals having been starved to death within view of the publie road in Geraldine last winter, and there is every appearance of the same occurring this winter, unless there in something done to prevent it. Now, sir, it appears by reading the report of the board’s meeting that the chairman was powerless to deal with the matter, or I have no doubt ha would have taken steps to bring offenders to justice long ago. I hope, sir, that the public will turn up when the public meeting is calLd, end protect those that are not able to protest themselves.—l am, etc., Inquire a.
