AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ended May 9fch, 1891, as follows : PLEASANT POINT. We have to report a steady business in stock of all kinds at Pleasant Point yards on Monday. We sold in sheep 175 three-quarterbred wethers and maiden ewes, 2-tooth, at 14s 6d; 54 store 2-tooths at 11s Id; 210 fat crossbred ewes at 7s 6d ; 120 do do at 10s 6d; 85 do do at 11s; 275 three-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes, in forward condition, at 12s 6d ; 44 merino wethers, stores, at 4s; 75 three-quarter-bred ewes, 8s 3d ; 32 three-quarter-bred lambs, 7s lid; 50 three-quarter-bred ewes at 9s 2d. TEMXJKA MARKET. At the lemuka Jive stock market on Tuesday we yarded 4900 sheep,
95 cattle, and 75 pigs. There was a largo attendance of buyers, and the bulk of the entry was sold at the following quotations: Sheep— i hree-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes, 2 and 4 tooth, in forward condition, at 14s 6d to I4s 9-1; fat lambs, at 9s 9d to 10a 6d ; three-quarter-bred wethers and maiden ewes, 2-tooth stores, 12s 3d to 12s 6c! ; three-quarter-bred ewes, fat, 8s 3d to 8s 9d ; merino wethers, in forward condition, 6s to 6s 3d. Cattle—Fat bullocks, £7 to £7 10s ; fat cows, £4 10s to £5; cows, springing, £5 to £5 2s 6d ; dry cows, £2 to £2 15s; 2-year-old steers and heifers, £1 10s to £1 15s; yearling, 10a to 15s, Pigs Baconera, £1 2a 6d to -1 6s 6d ; porkers, 17s to 19d; strong stores, 7a 6d to 10a; medium stores, 6s 6d to 7s; weaners, 3s 6d to sa.
Sheepskins On Wednesday we held our usual fortnightly sale at the stores of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, limaru, our catalogue consisted of some really good lines of butchers’ and station lots, which met with keen competition and sold at full rates, crossbreds selling at 3s 9d, 4s, 4s6dtoss4d, TIMARU. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight as follows : Horses—On the 2nd inst- we entered at the Timaru Horse Bazaar 48 of all classes, and to-day over 50. The demand for young draughts has improved very, and is likely to continue brisk for some time. At both sales we disposed of a large proportion of our entry, and quote njedium to good draughts at from £ls to £24 10b ; aged and inferior, £8 to £l2; light harness horses (good sorts) up to £l7 10s ; hacks, medium, £9 to £l3 10s; light, £3 to £7.
•Sheep—Contrary to opinions freely expressed during the past month, the demand for stores continues good, and this is especially the case as regards well forward wethers and ewes for turnip feeding. Breeding ewes, aoundmontbed, are also in request. —At Pleasant Point, on the 4th inst., there was a full yard, aud sales were quite up to owners’ expectations. We sold 220 crossbred ewes at 10s 6d, 144 2tooth wethers at 10s Bd, 98 aged crossbred ewes at 6s, 221 do do do at 4s 6d to 5s 6d, 42 fat ewes at 10a 3d, 68 do at 9s 9d, 118 crossbred ewes at 8a 6d, 94 cull do at 4s 4d, 114 do do at 4s Bd, 42 fat ewes at 9s 4d,—At Washdyke, on the 28th ult., our sales were 224 halfbred ewes at 13s, 142 lambs at 8s 4d, 161 fat ewes at lls Id, 40 lambs at 8s 4d, 113 full-mouthed ewes at 9s 3d, 210 merino ewes at 5s Bd, 700 merino ewes at 5s 6d, 22 rams at one to three guineas. Cattle—There is very little business doing at present; at the various sales we have sold fat heifers at £3 15s to £4 12s 6d, 2-year-old heifers at 25s to 80s, cows at from 20s to £3 ss.
Sheepskins—At our fortnightly sales we catalogued and sold over 1200 skins—best crossbreds realised up to 4s; medium, from 2s to 2s 9d ; pelts, 6d, 9d. Is, to Is 4d, We have also placed 5552 factory skins at full rates. ENGLISH MARK BIS. London, May 7. The Bank of England returns, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £12,210,000 The proportion of reserves to liabilities is 33.36 per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 104, improving; do, 96i. quiet. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 445, quiet, For New Zealand wheat on passage sellers are asking 6d ; buyers will not give more than 435. New Zealand hemp, medium quality, is quoted at £22, but there is no demand. Canterbury lamb, 5d ; beef, hindquarters, 4fd. Frozen meat is otherwise unchanged. South Australian wheat, 44s 6d, market weaker; Victorian do, 44s’ restricted. New Zealand flour. 28s 6d to 295. Tallow, best mutton, 27s to 27s 6d • best beef, 25s 6d to 265. ’ Leather, best sides, 9d to 9£d.
