ANNUAL MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.
MILFORD. The householders of the Milford school district held their annual meet, ing on Monday evening, 27th April. The attendance was similar to that of former occasions. Mr Robert Macaulay having been elected chairman of the meeting the following report and balance-sheet jf the outgoing committee was read.
“To the householders of Milford School District —Your committee begs to submit the following report of their proceedings for the year ending 3 let March, also balance-sheet showing receipts and expenditure from Ist January 1890 to 31st March 1891. Tour committee have held eleven ordinary, and two special meetings, ail of which have been fairly well attended. Finance—Receipts, balance to credit, £8 7s 9d; from Board of Education for incidental purposes, £l6; stationery fees, £8 2s 2d; making a total of £32 9s lid. Expenditure, incidentals, £8 18s 9d ; stationery, £l4 9s Id ; leaving a balance of £9 2s Id. Repairs—Very little has been done in the way of repairs during the last year. Repeated application was made to the Board of Education to have the roof repaired, but although the sum of £lO was voted for this purpose, all that has been done so far is a few pieces of tin put in here and there where the shingles were worst. Tour committee very much regret the inability of the board to proceed with this very necessary work, and begs to remind you that this is a matter of more than one year’s standing. The fences being iu a very bad state your committee have applied to the board with the view of getting them put in order. Nothing definite has been done as yet but their decision is expected at an early date. Teaching Staff The teaching staff is the same as last year, and your committee take this opportunity of expressing their satisfaction at the way in which they have performed their duties. During the year the average attendance at the school rose above that required to entitle us to the services of a pupil teacher, and in consequence application was made in October last for the necessary addition to the staff. Since then other three letters have been sent to the board on the subject, but without eliciting any reply. They have not even acknowledged having received any communication on the subject. Your committee are of opinion that such conduct on the part of the board demands some explanation, and has expressed themselves to that effect. The annual examination of the scholars took place on the 20th of October last, and your committee are pleased to state that the results show considerable improvement on the last few years. The following is from the inspector’s report : —“ Number of pupils presented DiaiUJUj itxiu Ad [JttSODu. J-uo-pio-paratory pupils do fairly well in all their work. The school has passed a good examination, and the order, attention, and manners are satisfactory.” The annual treat and distribution of prizes took place on December 19th, 1890, when prizes, etc., to the value of about £8 were distributed amongst the scholars. The committee desire to express their thanks to. all those who assisted in making the gathering the success that it proved. Since this f report was made up two communica-, tions have been received from the Board of Education—one granting us £2 towards repairing the fences, and the other asking us to recommend someone for the appointment as pupil teacher.” It was proposed by Mr Caleb Woodley, and seconded by Mr Peter Bain, and carried —“ That the report and balance-sheet as read be adopted,” r J he following gentlemen were then elected to form the committee for the year Messrs Tbos. White, Murdoch Mackay, Jas. Christmas. Jas. Macaulay, Peter Bain, Caleb Woodley, and Robt. Macaulay. | At a subsequent meeting of the I committee Mr Robt, Macaulay was | re-elected chairman.
