TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The mouth'y meeting of the above board was held last night. Present— Messrs J Blylb (chairman), P. G'oira, S. Clinch, W. Storey and G. Mason. CORRESPONDENCE, Correspondence was read From ihe Geraldine County Council, making demand upon the board for the sum of £l4 4s 3J, half share of contribution to Timaru Harbor Board ra’e, the same to ba paid to the credit of that body by June Ist, 1891. From the secretary Ashburton Gua and Coke Co., covering receipt for cheque forwarded. From the leasee Royal hotel, Temuka, asking for permission to put down crossings to give access to his premises in Vine and Main streets. From the Geraldine County Council, making demand upon the board for ihe sum of £9 Iss lid, the ha'f of the board's share to the Hospital and Chiritab o Aid Board ; a copy of the Hospital and Charitable Aid balance-sheet was also forwarded. From the town clerk, Timaru, giving information re the payment of rates in respect of the Salvation Army Barracks. If the property appeared in the name of the Salvation Army lie was of opinion that it was exempt. From the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy re preferential claims for rates in respect of Mrs Perceval, From Mr W, Ziesier, asking that Mr Hopkinson’a name might be substituted for his in respect of section 54. From Mr F. H. Hooper, asking permission to put pipe culvert in Alnutt street to give access to his premises.— Granted, subject Ic the usual conditions. From Mr Hewlinga, asking for certain alterations on the roll to be made. From Mr P. Edwards, asking that the name of Mr J. Grant be placed on the
roll in respect of section in Main street now standing in the name of Annie Edwards.
OTBBSBEE'S REPORT.
The overseer’s repoet was to the follow* ing effect. The several works authorised bad been carried out. He found 9 n pipes were unsuitable for the crossing to Mr C. tvorey’s stables. The culvert as now fixed consisted of 6io and 4 n pipes laid alongside. He had declined to put down a grating. Ha had comp ied with the > boir.l’a loitioctioDS re rates. He drew attention to the termination of the snidaceman’s engagement. The balancesheet had bean duly prepared, and the new rate roll was in course of preparation. The roads were gelling somewhat worn owing to the dry weather, dray traffic, and the traffic of stock to and fro the saleyards. Sundry repairs in this respect wonld be all that would be required. Mr Mason raid Ue was of opinion that the board should net insist upon the grating being put down at Mr Storey’s, it seemed a hardship, as the placing of a grating realty saved labor. It was decided not to move further in the matter at present. It was decided that the overseer have ■ authority to gel certain shingle carted for repairs. THB SURFACEMAN 1 . The question of the reappointment of a surfaceman was brought up. and Me Mason moved, Mr Storey seconded, and it was carried —“ That Mr J, McGrath bo reappointed at his former rate.” ACCOUNTS, Accounts were passed as follows General account, £l9 10a 3d; Board of Health, £8 9s Bd. The meeting then terminated.
