ANNUAL MEETING OP HOUSEHOLDERS.

GERALDINE. The annual meeting: of householders of tho Geraldine School District far the largest number of at this fixture. The long school was crowded. For a long the relations between the bead the committee have been severely and the friends of the master at the atsnusl mealing: of new committee would be Quoted would smooth matters over/. With end in view a oommittee/of supposed to be favorable to master was noininatsdy to run to the old committsfi, who nominated. Very active oanvaj&og done by both parties, and public feeling ran fairly high. Tbs result of the polling w .s that witb/one rxcaption the old committee were, elected by large majorities. Mr C, EL .Sherratt was the exception, Mr Shiors beating him by one vole. Last year .those two gentlemen polled an equal number of votes, and the choice wbb decided by lot, with the result that Mr Suerratt was chosen. This year (be positions was changed by one vote oaly. Mr R. H, Peaipoint, chairman of the outgoing committee, wes voted to the chair. He read the minutes of the last annual meeting, which were confirmed. ■ The committee’s report was. read % follows : “ At the close of our year o| office we have the pleasure of submittinAaiw-roport and balaince-sheot. Your compaittee have met 17 times during their teem of offjgo, with an average attendance of six members. Since the last annual meeting the new school h*s b#m completed, and affords ample accommodation, and should prove a groat boon to the school district. Tho committee regret that the Minister of Education has not yet soon his way clear to ruse the status of the school, but still hope, by continued exertions on behalf of the new committee to be elected this evening, the desirable object may yet be attained. During the year tho following changes have Uken pi ce in the school staff, riz. : Mr J. Uoiben Ins been appoints i second master in the place of Mr Boil, resigned; Master Heyraour Willoughby has been appaiotud to Master use's position, the latter taking Mr Colbert’s. Tho number of children on the roll has slightly increased since last year, the number now being 262 ns against--248, The htSTicst attendance has only reached 220 as agdost 219 last year. This 's far from satisfactory, and the committee desire to tropr as upon parents the urgent necessity of sending their children with greater regularity. The school has been inspected twice during the year, with fairly satisfactory results. Thi finances of the school are in a satisfactory state, considering the large expense the committee have been put to with fencing, p anting, new well and pump, and extra cost of janitor, supplemented only by a small grant from ►he Boat'd of Education. When your committee rook offioa the amount to credit was £6 7» lid. The expenditure during the year has been £BS Os 9d, and receipts, including bal mca from last year, £92 6s 81, leaving a balance in hand of of £7 5» lid. The annual concert was held shortly after the school broke up at Christmas, and realised £lO o>6i, and the expenses, including £5 7s 41 given in prizes and photos., to £6 7s 41, which left a balance in hand of £3l3s 2d. An alteration was mtde this year in distributing priz?s, he committee considering the old system acted very unfairly with a large proportion of the children, after year the same children wore fui, which certainly was no inducement t(W the dull ones and plodders to make further exertions. It was, therefore, decided to award prizss to the lower standards only, and to hold a school treat with the available balance in hand. You are aware that the treat was held on the 16th inst., and proved a great success; and the committee desire to record their thanks to ladies and gentlemen who so. generous gave donations ef money an a prizas, and also assisted at the tables, ''.'here remains a balance in hand on the pr'za account of £2 18s 101, besides about £1 worth of prizes. The committee regret that during tho year great unpleasantness has arisen with the headmister, but as the matter is now La the b mds of the Board of Education tMy discussion thereon would be out of place. This year the election of the committee

will be carried out under the new Act, by which a householder is only entitled to record one vote for one man. The mode of voting will be explained more fully prior to the election. The accounts of the committee have been duly examined by the auditor of the Board of Education, and are on the table for inspection. “R. H. Peabpoint, “Chairman of Committee.” On the motion of Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr C. E. Shorratt, the report and balance-sheet were adopted.
