RETRENCHMENT.

The Stock districts are to be enlarged Twelve officers of the urowa Lands and Survey Departments are to be transferred, including the following five chief inspectors:—Messrt Humphreys, Auckland ; Marchant, Wellington ; Baker, Christchurch; Mueller, Westland; Spence, Invercargill. Their destinations are not yet decided upon. The services of five Native Land Court Judges are to be dispensed with. It is calculated that the total savings effected by retrenchment by the present Gavernmeut so far amounts to £50,000 per annum. It is intended to divide the North Island for the purposes of the Native Land Court into circuits, each circuit to be in charge of one Judge, Ihe Justice Department is to be dealt with in a day or two,
