GERALDINE PUBLIC SCHOOL TREAT.

It is satisfactory to be able to record that the treat giyen instead of prizes to the children attending tbe Geraldine public school on Thursday afternoon was a decided success. The children attended in force at the school in good time, and at the appointed hour there was scarcely a child absent whose name appears upon tbe roll. The children, to the number of about 260, were marched down to the small park, and an imposing procession they made. Arrived at the park they soon scattered over the grounds, and all kinds of sports were quickly in full swing. Shortly before four o’clock an abundant tea was served, the youngsters being supplied until of sheer necessity they refused the good things offered. Tables for the adults were laid under the trees and were well patronised. The entire arrangements for these tables were in the hands of Mesdamea Fish, T. Sherratt. Dunlop, Pearpoint, Maalin, andJ. W, Pye, and Misses Fish (2), Preston (2),* HUI, Kimbell, and Erskine (2). Tbe committee were greatly assisted by a number of friends. Donations of milk and fruit were received from Mesdames Fish, Dunlop, Pearpoint, and White. Mrs T. Farrell and Messrs Werner and Lawson gave donations of beef and ham, Toys were given by Mr and Mrs Aitken and Mesdames Dunlop and Gibson, In addition to this, money donations amounting to £slos were given by various people. The edibles were supplied by Messrs Williams aod J. Eiordan. The whole of the committee, with the head master and the other teachers, worked hard to make the gathering a success, the results being highly satisfactory. A special word of praise is due to Mr J. Williams for his able management of the boiler and tea urns, Ihe children were drawn up in line shortly before six, and after each one had received a small bag of nuts and lollies three hearty cheers were given for those who had contributed towards tbe treat and tbe gathering broke up. After paying all expenses the committee will have a balance in band of about £4 16s.
