S.C. HOSPITAL AND CHABITABLE AID BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this board was held last Friday; Present—Mesdrs Moore (in the chair), Barker, Sinclair,'Ross, and Quinn. Mr Jackson, the chairman, apologised' for 'being absent,: and gave the following statement of the working of the hospital for the 12 months ending 3lsc March : —298 in-patients were treated (the largest number treated in any one year), and 407 out-patients (new cases) were dealt with. 1066 prescriptions for out-patieuts had been dispensed. < The hospital had cost £2308 7a sd, including £202 7s 6d for drainage, ventilation, porch, &c, and £llß 15s lOd for law. The analysis of working expenses showed the daily average of inpatients was 22|, and the daily cost per head per day., on the total expenditure was 5s 7|d; the coat after deducting new works and law expenditures, 4s 10d. 81 patients paid all or part of their maintenance, amounting to £175 16s 7d; donations, £5 9s 6d; from Eussell fuud, £27; rents, £ 13,105, report showed that the estimated receipts from donations, rents, and contributions from local bodies wits £2463 10s, to which was added; a'nr equal amount for subsidy from the Government, the gross total of receipts being £5867 15s. The expenditure was — > limaru hospital, £2205; Waimate hospital, £74o'charitable aid, £2200 ; destitute ward, £400; sundry small items making up the total, Detailed estimates were included for the hospital. After some discussion it wag decided to get estimates for altering four windows for the purposes ot vehtila-: tion.
Mr Jowsey was authorised to get the spouting and gutters repaired, and to call for tenders for building a partition wall in one of the rooms in the barracks'.
Consideration of a letter from the Waitaki Board, claiming £1 18s per week for attendance on D. Campbell, was deferred, and it was agreed to pay a claim of £1 Is per week to the Dunedin Hospital Board for attending on Isaac Hili. 'Minor' matters were attended to, and after accounts to the amount of £142 lis Id for charitable aid, and £157 17s 6d for the hospital, were passed for payment, leaving a balance of £3Bl 8s 2d to credit, the board adjourned.
