COMMERCIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday the entry of stock was not large. Score Sheep—Between 4000 and 5000 store,, sheep were yarded, and met with aiMf idemand. The greater portion consisted of crossbred ewes of all ages, besides a few lambs, and one or two pens of meiino ewes and wethers. Aged crossbred ewes brought from 5s 6d to 7s .6d; sound-mouthed ®wes, Btt to l2s, according to size and quality; 2-tooths, 10s to 12s, crossbred lambs, 7s to 9s; merino wethers, ss; and several old merino ewes at 2s to 3s.
Fat Lambs —ln fat lambs there were 800 to 1000 yarded, the. greatest number being small late sorts, which did not sell freely, and brought much the .same price as stores. I The better class of lambs were eagerly taken for freezing* realising frofmj 10s to 12s, agcordipg to'weight. iu the fat pens, though many were not fit to be thus classified. By reason of fcbe diminished entry the demand was considerably greater and prices hardened proportionately. As ewes predominated in numbers the trade were mostly satisfied. Good sorts of cross-hredH,-j£alised~£com 9a -to > 13s, good wethers 14s and upwards. There was a dearth of good merino wether mutton, exporters had not much to fall back; upon to suit them, wethers and maiden ewes being in a minority. Towards the end of the sale there was a falling off of Is 6d to 2s per head. Tbeife were sold for Mr A. M. Clark 120 crossbred ewes at 14s 6d to 15a 9d. Fat Cattle—l 69 head of fat cattle were yarded, and the quality generally was rough and inferior to what has been the: case recently. There was a largb proportion of three-quarter fat cotfd and heifers and very few steers Ox -beef brought from 16s to 18s per lOOlbs, and the remainder from 16» 6d
Store Cattle —Of the 130 head yarded there were a few lines of yearlings and 18-month-olds, which sold at from 14* to 21s. A line of three-year-old steers and heifers were sold to improve at £3 sa, and some forward conditioned bullocks brought *5. There was f a continued demand for prime sorts of dairy cows, but dry cows were at a discount.
Pigs About ' 210, chiefly heavy porkers or- light baconers, and some heavy weights, were entered. , Bacon pigs were in fair demand at from 25s to 30s for light, sorts.
DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday;— -Wheat—Market very firm, and all good parcels are easily placed at an advance on last week’s quotations. Prime tusoana and velvets, 4s Id to 4s 3d ; other good sorts,:3a lOd to 4s. Fowls’ wheat—As yet scarce. Good whole. 8s GJ to 3s 7d; broken and inferior, 3s 2d to 8s 4d.
Barleyr-rßrithe malting, 3s to 8a 2d; milling, 2s 4i to' 2s 6‘d ; feed, 2e to 2s 3di i Pearl barley, £l3. j Prime Nelson hops now to band at; Is 2d to Is 3d f.o.b. Nelson.
Oats are a. little firmer, and all. coming to hand are easily sold off truck at —for prime milling, Is s|d : bright plump feed, Is 6d to Is s£d; sacks 6d off trucks.

Bran—2s 10d locally, : or 50a f.o.b. Timam for-shipment. Potatoes—Oamaru derwents, 60s to 52s 6d per ton, and in good supply. Pigs—2fd to 3d for good curing sizes ; hams, 7d ;to 8d; bacon, 6d to 6d, Chaff—• In . good demand; 40s to 455. fojp- heavy, clean, well cut; and riddled. Turnips—lßs to 20s, sacks extra. Carrots—Sss to 40s, sacks extra. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 30s to 355. Hay—Oaten, £3; clover l and ryegrass, £3 to £3 ss. Butter—Prime salt, 6d to kegs extra. Eggs—Scarce. Honey—-New season’s extracted in. 561 b tins, 5d per lb, also in 11b, 21b, and 41b tins. Cheese Factory, 4d to 4£d ; Akaroa, to 4d. Good secondhand butter casks aud Pond’s boxes 8s each.
Grass Seeds Ryegrass, farmers’ lots/Ss 9d to 4s 6d ; machined, 5s 6d ; Poverty Bay seed, 6s 6d f o.b. Gisborne ; Italian ryegrass, 5s 9d ; cocksfoot, inactive but firm, 4fd to s£d ; seconds, 3d to 3|d.
Sheepskins continue in brisk demanp, and all sorts coming forward meet with attention. On Tuesday dry skins, medium, brought 2s 3d to 4s; fuli-woolled crossbreds, 4s 6d to 6s 6d; do do merinos, 4s 6d to 6a ; dry pelts, @d to Is 6d; butchers medium, 2s 3d to 2s 9d ; inferior. Is 3d to 2s; green lambskins from 3s 3d to ls9d. Hides —■ All consignments coming forward are readily disposed of at late rates, viz., inferior and slippy, Id to ; light, ]£d to lid ; medium, 2d to 2id; heavy, 2fd to 3d. Tallow—A good local demand exists for all lota coming forward at for prime rendered mutton, 19s to 20s; medium to good, 16s to 18s ; inferior and mixed, 13s to 15s 6d ; rough fat, from 9s to 12s 6d. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS, At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—ll 6 head were yarded to-day, a small proportion being good quality, the balance light and inferior, 'ihe demand was good, bullocks realising up to £7 17b 6d per bead, cows to £7 2s 6d. Fat Sheep—Only 1662 were penned, of which 118 were merinos. Prices showed a considerable improvement, best crossbred wethers realising up to 15s 9d, do ewes to 14s, Fat Lambs—The season for this class of stock being nearly over, few are now coming forward. 135 were penned, and sold readily up to 113 3d. Pigs —ll7 of all sorts forward. Prices were again in favor of buyers. Stores sold from 16a to 19a; porkers, 20s to 265; baconers, 29s to 32s

Adelaide, April 8. Wheat, firm, tone of market un settled ; present quotations, 8s lOd to 4s. Flour, £7 10s to £8; roller, £8 10a to £9 10e. Oats, New Zealand, in bond, 2s 2d to 2s 3d. Barley, Cape, 2s 3d to 2s 7d ; English malting, 2s 9d to 2s 4d.
KN&LIBH MARKETS. London, April 6. The quantity of and flour afloat for the Hutted Kingdom is 2,796,000 quarters, and for the Continent 178,000. quarters. i Three montns bills,per cent. April 7, Of the apples sent by tbe Tongariro the Styx Company’s (Christchurch) Fmperor Alexander’s sold at 24s per bushel; Old Nonpareil, 21s; and Kerry Pippins, 20s. Btfoney is abundant, but investors are somewhat timid, the dread of another financial panic being still prevalent on the market. ‘ Wpbl 1 is. firm,, and-tliere is brisk competition at the sales. April 8.
At the wool sales good greasy merinos and all crossbreds realised prices fully equal to the best obtained at the. February series. Quotations for good scoured are unchanged. Poor and faulty scoured wools show a decline of 6 per cent.
Wheat is 6d dearer. The American visible supply is 397,000,000 bushels.
The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association (Limited) have received the following cablegram frem th,eir London office, dated 7th April:— , .“The present price of mutvon is 4rf d, lamb*‘ffifd per ”lbi The market is affected by,large, supplies.”
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated 7»b April : Wool—The sales progress firmly. Since the opening of same, superior greasy merino has advanced £d per lb. Other descriptions unchanged. Up to date 42,000 bales have been sold. Wheat" - Market is firm. Spot market quotations unchanged since last telegram. New Zealand wheat, f.a.q., to arrive, iron ship, is worth, c.i.f, 39s per 480 lbs, March-April bills of lading.
