ALLEGED MURDER.
Auckland, March 31.
The old man, William Yeitch, who was enticed out of his house and brutally assaulted and robbed on the night of the 23rd March, at Wairoa South, died this afternoon. On Monday last, as Yeitch appeared to be sinking, his depositions were taken before two Justices of the Peace, Captam Crawford and Mr James Bell, at his house at Wairoa South, and in the presence of. Thomas Fry, alias Floyd, who had been remanded on a charge of assault and robbery. Yeitch then identified Fry as the man who assaulted him. When his depositions were taken Yeitch, who was a feeble old man, was in a sad state, his face and chest having been severely bruised, and the flesh over the eyes swollen and lacerated. A telegram received in town to-day by Inspector Broham, states that he died at a quarter past 4 o’clock this afternoon. Fry is well known in Wairoa South district as a laborer by the name of “ the Mexican,” and worked for Yeitch for some time.
