Auckland, March 30
A flax mill at Runciman, near Drury, was burnt down on Sunday afternoon, three tons of fibre and a quantity of tools being destroyed. There was no insurance on the property, and the owner, John Cornwall, estimates bis loss at £2OO, Gisboene, April 1.
The clothes of John Bourke, Town Clerk, were found at the end of the breakwater at eight o’clock this morning. A careful search has been made for the body without result. It is thought likely the body will, be found among the rocks at low tide. Deceased was 43 years of age, and had been town clerk of Gisborne for ten years, having previously been accountant in the Union Bank at Gisborne, N elaon and Invercargill. Mrs Bourke states that her husband left the house at 620 for a bathe, saying he would not be long away and would be back for his breakfast. The sea was very calm but a swift current was running and as the sides of the concrete block are very slippery, deceased would have a difficulty in getting back on the pier. He was esteemed by every citizen, and hia sad fate gave a great shock to the community. Wellington, March 31.
Yesterday a young man named Otto Oampton, was buried under a fall of earth as he was excavating some ground at the new lunatic asylum at Porirua. He was taken out and brought to the hospital, where he died this afternoon.
Wellington, April 1
A private telegram received here states that Leonie and Yiva Gillespie, aged 14 and 16, daughrers of H. 0. Gilliespie, manager of the ■ Kauri Timber Company, Thames, were drowned in the Kaaertina yesterday afternoon.
Chbistchuech, March 30.
A child named James McKay, 2\ years of age, was drowned in a tub of water at St. Asaph Street, Christchurch, to-day.

Frederick Hall, one of the spieling fraternity, was to-day sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for stealing a totalisator ticket, value £2 Is 6d, from a man at the JJiccarton races yesterday,
A SHBUETON, April 1,
The William Beattie who was found drowned at Oamaru is supposed to be the manager at Dalgety Company’s Lake Heron station, Ashburton Gorge. He went to Oamaru a fortnight ago to visit a sick friend and has not since been heard of.
Dunedin, March 31
William Campbell, a miner, was killed in the Bendigo mine at Cromwell on Saturday. He was carrying dynamite in a bucket, and had a lighted candle, when an explosion occurred, and Campbell was killed.
