AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. GEKALDINE. Messrs H. B. Webster and Co. report that they held a very successful sale of land, sheep, horses, and implements, etc, on account of Wm. Postlethwaite Esq., on Thursday, 25th March, at Baukapuka, Geraldine. At auction none of the land was disposed of, but privately, after the sale, one farm was sold at £l2 17s Gd to Mr Palmer, and two other farms are on the verge of completion. When these are sold over 3000 acres oil this estate will have been disposed of in small farms.

Sheep—Keen competition was experienced for every line of sheep offered, 334 4-tooth ewes brought 12a Id ; 390 ewes at 12s 3d ; 413 ©wee, 6-tooth, lis 9d ; 655 ewes, full mouth. 9a Id ; 203 sound mouth, 10a Id ; 251 fair mouth, 8s 7d ; 79 fat ewes, lis 9d; 154 fat ewes, 12s 2d. Lambs —1158 were sold at from 7s 3d to7s6d. Cattle—Fat cows were sold at from £4 15s to £3 each. I

Horses—Draughts were sold at from £2O to £7 10s. Hacks at from £33 to £lO.

Implements were all disposed of at satisfactory prices. A large number of people from all parts of the district attended the sale, and,it being a magnificent day, enjoyed a very pleasant outing.

OHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

1 he following is the Corn Exchange report (per N, P. foyers, Secretary), for the week ending Friday, March 27th:—

The approaching holidays have< interfered with business during the past day or so, and in consequencfe wheat has.not hardened,but quotationb' remain firtoo'. Oats'are still neglected, buyers only operating from hand to mouth. Barley has a drooping tendency, and only choice parcels command favor. A.: fair business is passing in Ryegrass and Cocksfoot/, but it must be remembered that the season is fast drawing to a close! Potatoes have had considerable business, especially' derwenta, whilst j kidneys are almost neglected. Dairy ■produce is quiet at quotations. Values are as follow :

Wheat—-Prime milling tuscan, 3s 8d; pearl, 3s?6d ; hunters, 3s 5(1; second quality, 3s Id to 3a 3d ; broken, 2a 6d to 2s 9d.

. Oatß—Milling, Is 8d; short feed; Is 6d to la 7d; long and inferior* Is 4d to Is sd.

, Barley—Extra prime malting, 3s 3d; fair to good, 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; medium; 2a 3d; feed, Is 9d. Peas—Blue Prussians, 2s 9d to 3s. Beans—2s 4d to 2s 6d.

: . Grass Seed —Machine dressed, 5s to 5s 3d ; farmers parcels, 3s 6d to 4s.i Cocksfoot, 4Jd to sd. Potatoes Derwents, 27s 6d ; kidneyß, 255; delivered at country! stations.

Dairy Produce-—Butter, factory, 8d; ! farmers potted 6d to 7d. Cheese/ small loaf shape, 4£d ; larger sizes, 3£d to 4d. The above prices are those paid to l farmers for delivery, f.0.b., Lyttelton,; potatoes excepted : Backs 6s 6d per doz full size. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 26. Owing to a dearth in the market at present the Doric's butter is realising frbm 104 sto 116 s. Choicest quality brings 120 s to 1245. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 107 ; 8& do, 97£ New Zealand long-berried wheat, 41s 9d firm ; for New Zealand wheat off coast sellers are asking 40s 6d, but buyers refuse to give more than 39s 6d. Canterbury mutton, 4f d ; Wellington do, 4fd; Canterbury lamb, 6Jd ; beef, forequarters, 3- 7-16 d; hinds, 4id. Kauri gum, fine, selected, transparent, 10 guineas ; good hard timber, £6 16s; pickings, £8 8s 6d. There is no demand for hemp, and all.shipments which were offered for sale were bought in. South Australian wheat, 435, firm; Victoria do, 425, firm.
